Well least we're getting back on track. After a meh third volume Dan decided to step his game up, and add a new artist...an AMAZING artist!
Stjepan Sejic comes in to give Aquaman a HUGE boost. Who else would be perfect for a underwater adventure? Stjepan Sejic that's who!!! So we have a new artist and a new setting. Aquaman last volume was stabbed and left for dead. He drifted into the down low area, the very dark and disgusting area, basically the ghetto in underwater world. He doesn't want to be the king anymore but when he starts going around saving people word gets out that the king is BACK! The political themes are still here, the fights are still happening, and our heroes are in trouble. Is it better than previous volumes though?
Good: The art. It's amazing. Seeing him draw the underwater areas plus the fights are stunning. The men are hot, the women are beautiful. Magic in the art here. The story is actually pretty good too. Much better than the last two volumes. Dan seems to want a faster paced, everything going wrong, type story. This is the best way to approach Aquaman for sure.
Bad: The political plotlines are kind of meh. They try but add very little. Also some of the new villains in the downlow are just terrible. Their powers make no sense, especially under water.
Overall this was a solid volume. The art greatly pushes this to the good area. If the story keeps up with the uprising storyline we might be in for a real treat. A 3.5 out of 5.

Who knew I'd like a Prequel to Kingdom Come more than Kingdom Come haha.
So Justice Society continues to build upon their characters. These stories almost feel like one shots but for some reason really work. You get to know each character by their actions, past, a little exposition but mostly through their current adventure. We also get introduced to Superman from the Kingdom Come universe. Upon doing so we get a nice look into the world of Kingdom Come and a little bit more background about it. So how does the Kingdom Come Superman fit? Well...
Good: He fits great! His outlook on the world is a lot darker, a lot scarier, but at the same time he himself is filled with hope. The very first thing he does when running away from the Justice Society is save a girl from trying to kill herself (See Zack Snyder...it's not that hard) I also really dug each individual story with the society member. You really see them as people here, and while some are super overpowered, it gives them a more "real sense." and each story really can be read by themselves which is kind of neat.
Bad: The art sometimes make it hard to follow actions. It's not bad just not 100% easy to follow. I also found some of it a bit to heavy on exposition. Like instead of showing a background they tell you. Which Johns sometimes does.
Overall I really had fun with this. I thought this was honestly great. The way we get each character having their own story and focus on the goods and bads of their life is both interesting and well done. So I'll hush up now and give this a 4 out of 5.

This was pretty boring to be honest.
So the Jedi are attacked and one of them (or more) is killed. This has Skywalker's great great great grandson 100's years from Last Hope fighting the new Sith. However, the story also involves the Emperor getting taken down, more characters dying, and honestly I just kind of zoned out reading this unless it had something to do with Cade.
Good: I liked the fight with the darkside/lightside stuff. I also thought the ending sets up some interesting things which will probably make me read the next few.
Bad: The art is pretty bad tbh. It's hard to tell what's happening in fight scenes, they are pretty awful. Also the designs are terrible. Reminds me of the 80's, but the things you don't want to see from the 80's. I also thought the pacing was all over the place and only couple of issues were interesting.
This was pretty meh. I might try volume 2 to see if it gets better. I'm waiting to read an amazing Star Wars comic! 2 out of 5.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about Detective Comics finishes 2017 with the strongest volume since volume 1.
The first couple of issues mostly focus on Spoiler and her finding her place in this world now that she's walked away from the bat family. Once we get past that we focus on Tim Drake. You know our hero who has been gone 30+ issues? Well he's back and he's bringing someone with him. With a FUTURE Tim Drake following around the Tim we all know and love we begin to have a race of protecting the future and the present.
Good: Everything involving Tim Drake. It's obvious that James Tynion loves this character. His writing for this character is great. The back and forth between our Tim and future Tim is great. The outlook on life, and small sneak peeks into what COULD happen is both exciting and interesting. The Tim Drake of the future's plans are great and only could be stopped by one man was wonderful. The art also is once again solid and probably the best the series had to offer. The clayface stuff was also a huge plus and him and Cas being brother/sister relationship is perfect.
Bad: The Spoiler stuff just kind of feels meh. After a long build up in other issues this really did nothing for me and was glad it was over.
Overall this was wonderful. Easily the best Detective Comics volume for me. Now that this series is picking up steam again I can't wait for what's next. Awesome job James Tynion! Keep it up! A 4 out of 5.

Holy fuck this volume was screwed up in so many ways.
So Kei is having trouble recovering after his last fight. He just kind to wants to settle and be away from that damn room till he figures a way out of this game. Simple right? Except WRONG. The crazy stalker fellow from the previous volumes is looking around and he wants to die. Kei refuses to kill him because he's not a psycho but this guy is. So what does he do? Decides to go on a rampage and shoot a bunch of innocent people for no other reason than he could. We begin to find out why previous characters in this series were introduced as this man slaughters a bunch of people we've met before.
Good: Gantz is never boring, I'll give it that. This volume is disturbing to say the least. The psycho dresses himself up and paints his face Black to make sure no one can pin point who he was after he's gone murdering people despite wanting to die. So it's all types of fucked up. The murders are brutal and hard to watch and the chance of hope keeps getting ripped away every step.
Bad: The volume suffers some odd moments of characters stalling and thinking dumb things. I didn't understand some characters thought process or why Kei doesn't just burst out of the train.
Overall this was a exciting, quickly paced, and brutal chapter in the long running series. It's been on a roll so hope it keeps going. A 4 out of 5.

Tom King has done it. He has made a 5 star volume of Batman. It's been a LONG time since I gave a Batman book a 5 star.
See this volume does something the previous did not. There's no big threat, no danger looming in the background, nobody dies (okay maybe someone at one point) but this is a story that gives real humanity to Bruce. We finally see a extremely vulnerable Bruce who's going through shit internally and you can see it effecting him. This is because last arc Batman had asked Selina to Marry him and she said yes. Now we face the leading up to marriage.
We have a story of the Batman and Catwoman traveling into the desert to face Talia. Not so much for combat, though she does send guards to attack them, but for Batman to know how serious he is about this Marriage. Funny enough it will be Selina who will do the talking. Then we have a one shot annual that goes through Bruce's entire life with Selina and it's...well we'll get to that. Then we have a two parter about Bruce and Clark meeting up, and their lovely ladies chatting it up, and you see a very human side to everyone.
Good: Everything. Seriously. The first arc probably being the weakest but still really strong. To get a little more indepth on Selina mindset here and how much she cares about Bruce is wonderful. The reaction from the Batfamily is wonderful. The best being Damien and Dick, and then watching their reaction and talk is near perfect.
The annual might go down as one of my favorite stories ever for Batman. I love the emotion it captures. It hardly has Batman dressed up at all but you get to see his first meetings with Catwoman till the last few days of their life, and it's bitter, and beautiful, and very very very well done.
Last but not least you have Superfriends two parter which is Clark and Bruce first refusing to call each other. Too scared to have the ladies meet. However, hearing them speak about each other is so wonderful and a great insight to how they really feel. Second part is them all going out, including lois and Selina and it's so wonderful, and cute, and well done, and feels like it's made for ADULTS. Like only adults can understand the relationships going on here because you've been through it.
Bad: None
I honestly loved every moment of this volume. Well paced, amazing dialog, truly strong character moments, and a future that sounds bright as can be. I only fear the happiness Bruce is trying to seek will be taken from him so for now, I bask in it till it's gone. A 5 out of 5.

Cave Carson is back! You ready to get into even wackier fun than last time? let's do it.
I'll be honest. I probably have to re-read it once more to really get what the fuck was happening. Cave, his daughter, and friends all hopping around different dimensions and shit fighting big ass bug looking monsters and other shit. Confusing to say the least. We also have some accepting arcs where Cave has a moment with a memory of both his wife and superman. It's wacky, it's crazy, sometimes makes little sense, but isn't that what we're here for?
Good: Enjoyed the art style still. Everyone has a unique look to them. I also really dig Cave's relationship with his daughter. It's always well done with the dialog. Also we have a new kid pop in who's very very interesting. Superman stuff was a lot of fun too.
Bad: The story makes very little sense for me. I read it slow, not skimming, and still had issues following what the fuck was happening. It could have been done on purpose even. Not really sure! I also didn't like the wife stuff where felt was a bit forced.
Overall Cave Carson volume 2 is wacky, if not more wacky, than the first. It's over the top, weird, and a little bit sexy. Yeah, I said it, Sexy! A 3 out of 5.

Sadly this wasn't as good as the last volume. Saying that, it's still fun.
This volume has a few stories, the two biggest being when the Lanterns team up with Batman and then another where Polarity the villain who can control metal, goes a little bit batshit insane. While the Batman story has the Lanterns go to Gotham the Polarity story deals with Simon dealing with his own issues and family.
Good: I always enjoy character development so anything with Simon growing as a character is nice. Jessica had a nice "fear" moment that really helped show how far her character came. I also thought dealing with a villain breaking down was well done.
Bad: The Batman stuff was heavy handed and kind of dull at points. I didn't buy the dialog between Simon and Bruce all that much. I also thought the pacing of this volume was slower and not as exciting as the previous.
Overall while I didn't love this like volume 2 I thought it was still entertaining. I think when Sam focuses on Jessica/Simon growing as people it works best. His villain work sometimes can suffer. A 3 out of 5!

Well Rick always knows how to depress you that's for sure.
This is very similar to titles like Criminals from Ed Brubaker. Everyone is a piece of shit. Everyone is flawed in some ways. There's no clear "good" or "bad" guy here. This is mainly focused on 3 people trying to pull off a job. Of course they're all insane in their own way, betraying people left and right, and tons of blood and gore to fill the pages. When you got three people who don't trust each other what happens when they must work together? Well...that be spoilers!
Good: I enjoyed the art style for the most part. Some shots are downright wonderful, and the action is super fucked up. The dialog is pretty solid, though sometimes forced (Rick sometimes puts odd dialog in there) it still flows well. I enjoyed the first 2/3rds of it a lot and thought the pacing was solid there. Also the fight scenes, woooow.
Bad: The pacing kind of tips off at the last act. I thought the third issue was a little to cliche. All the twist I've seen before. Yes, nothing can be super original now days with all the crime movies/tv shows and comics but still. I just felt like I saw it all coming. I also thought the ending didn't fit the feel of it, but I guess we have to be a little happy, right?
Overall this was pretty fun. Rick Remender really writes some good dark shit and this is no exception. I'd probably get it around a 3.5 but that ending just kind if dipped it for me. So I'll still say 3.5 out of 5 but I'ma give this one a 3 stars on here.

I'm 28. Now, you're reading this, saying "who gives a shit"...Well...I say this because I didn't really grow up with Spawn in a way. I did, because my father ran a comic book shop till I was 9. So Spawn came out 1992, I was 3. I knew Spawn by 5. Then more popular once the character got a movie. Of course, at 8 or 9 years old I thought the spawn movie was fucking "AWESOME" but then I got older and watched it again and knew that was just a dream. Not real. FAKE!
So anyway, Spawn Origins is like a time capsule. We can jump into the 90's once more with words like "Rad" being thrown around. I loved seeing the art of the 90's. What's that? It's very big muscular guys, lots of chains, and demons looking like uglier versions of the things from men in black who wouldn't shut the fuck up.
Spawn Volume 1 gives us the world of Spawn in a few short stories. A couple of them connect, but you can see it's more of a weekly episode type feel. Spawn meets his arch nemesis, also meets a child molester/murderer, we meet Twitch the detective pal, and a few more characters.
What I liked: I'm not going to lie. I fucking LOVE 90's art. I get it. It's over stylized but just like Rumble (Recent comic) or 90's Nightwing, I just freaking love it. It's over the top action and splash pages but it's so awesome to me. Spawn is a pretty cool main lead. Kind of a asshole, but also you can understand where he's coming from. His death is a mystery and remains interesting. The storyline of the child murderer was pretty good too and I liked that. Also the villain, Violator, is pretty fun.
What I didn't like: Some outdated words def feel old. Also some small errors here and there in dialog can be distracting. The exposition is also strong with this one where Todd tells more even though we can see it.
Overall though I won't lie. I had a lot of fun reading it. It's more of a 3.5 but I'ma bump it to a 4 just because it brought back so many memories plus it's 90's in one comic book. Can't hate that too much. Check it out!
