Solid little crossover for the two cap titles.

Basically both Caps go and try to save Ian and also deal with Winter Soldier and his betrayal. It's a fun adventure, especially the middle where Caps have to fight together and then each other. Steve is a man on a mission, and anyone trying to stop him except maybe his best friend, better get the fuck out of his way. While that's happening we dive deeper into Bucky and his cause while dealing with Ian and his rise to power.

Overall good stuff, and a nice capper to this run. Only basically 3 more issues left to wrap up this whole run now.

Man, Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs are on their game creating a really great down to earth story featuring superhero characters.

Basically we have Jack Xaver, aka Crossjack is his superhero name, and he's just not having a great life. He has to move back with his parents, his superhero career is over, and he's just not fitting in anywhere. Then when he takes down a villain and that person dies, things get scarier as coverups begin and people start to die.

The characters all feel real, the repercussions of their actions and their past come back to haunt them, and the lead is worthless at times, but has a heart that makes him easy to follow. I also think the art is great, showcasing kind of this beat down and sad city with over the top superhero moments that help spark the interest.

I hope this series continues to be this good because I really dug it. A 4.5 out of 5.

This is a very long event lol.

I remember it more fondly in my day of reading as a teenager than reading it now. HOnestly this could have been half as long as just as effective. It's basically a 12 issue evolution storyline of Peter becoming more spider like. It probably was a bit of JMS idea but also they wanted Peter to shoot webs out of his arms like the movie I'm sure. The idea of him having stingers is also weird...but maybe a easter egg for Spider-Man 2099. The biggest gripe I have with it is the different art styles are SO different it makes the brutal fights turn silly the next issue in terms of design. Also the writing feels very different too.

This felt like a stretched out storyline on purpose but it was still decent enough with some great MJ and Peter moments and brutal fights. Just wish it felt more completed and not like 4 different artist going back and forth making it feel off.

A fun little horror story mixed with heavy metal. It wraps up a bit too fast but the brutal storyline is fun to read with plenty of fucked of imagery.

Civil War spans dozens of titles but one of the biggest pieces is Spider-Man's story.

You won't get the full story without reading the main event of Civil War, and that's the worst part about this book. However, everything else is pretty damn good. Peter's struggle to do what's right, to do good by friends, while also protect his family leads to some great moments and triumphs for the character while also feeling down to earth for the audience to relate to. Lots of cool action moments mixed with heartfelt speeches make this one of the stronger parts of the Civil War event.

The ending was crazy for this one!

Hilo is a children's book but damn if it ain't entertaining. Giving you real stakes for the children to decide who's bad and good. The world inside Hilo isn't so black and white and it's hard for kids to decide who really is bad or good. I love the art, the characters, and the emotion here. Great stuff!

Peter's aunt is shot, leaving him to go a bit fucking nuts. This is basically one long storyline of Peter hunting down who hurt his aunt.

It starts with him slowing putting the pieces together, who hurt his aunt, and who hired the killer. It shows when Peter doesn't joke around, when he's on a mission, he can be a very dangerous man. I do like the change and think it works mostly well. I think too much of the plot is convenient of how he finds the killer and which way he goes about it. And the idea that Peter would murder seems a bit over the top but the overall change in character does make sense.

A 3 out of 5 for entertaining but this isn't your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Nice detective/murder mystery.

Basically take The Wire and True Detective and put them together. There's two detectives trying to solve the murders in a small town. But of course it's not so simple since once they get a trail it leads to some rich asshole. As we get deeper into it, we see more of our detectives general life to the point you get to know them, but this doesn't end happy.

Dark and moody with great pacing, really dug this one. I can read more like this! Very Brubaker like.

I originally gave this a 1 since I was so heated at what this did for Spider-Man back in the day.

Now reading it, it's not AS bad as I remember, but still feels SO forced.

Basically Peter just can NOT get over May dying. The idea that he blames himself lines up with Spidy but the fact he can't accept her death because he blames himself, despite all 3 of them making the choice for Peter to come out makes no sense to me. It just feels forced drive behind Peter's action. MJ even says the truth, May had a long life, a good one, and it's time to let go. But nope, they don't. Either way we get some rushed storyline of what ifs, and a surprise fuck you to Peter on who could have been in his life, including his daughter, which I did like. It is nice too when you see the status quo get reset at the end, brings up some hope for the series, but it feels just kind of weak in general the way it was done and forced because they backed Peter into a corner and didn't know how to get him out.

A 2 out of 5.

The Hulk is BACK!

Phillip Kennedy Johnson smartly takes hulk back to his horror roots again. This feels like immortal hulk first did when it began. Basically Bruce just trying to be away from everyone yet somehow always gets dragged into things. When he meets a young girl who looks up to him the Hulk show's his true colors, and man oh man are their some vicious and disturbing kills and transformations here. Protecting someone is Hulk's best moments next to destroying.

Overall solid first arc, showcasing a protective Hulk against the odds as always and making sure he comes out on top by smashing anyone in his way.
