Seems the art really gets better every volume.

More background on Fincher, his rise, and how quickly we see the Reds revolt against the golds. Watching them struggle just makes the main Red Rising feel even more impactful. The death, the carnage, the loss. That ending with EO as a kid hit hard. All just really great stuff.

Very enjoyable but pretty long winded with the message.

Hugo is trying to hunt and figure out who Batman is. Using his ways he has everyone else doing his dirty work. I actually enjoyed how psycho Hugo came across, and his ways to get Batman caught was great. Batman is also enjoyable here, still learning the crime fighting way, and screwing up a few times is always enjoyable. But the mother/father storyline felt been there done that (probably not much back then but still) and the ending was a little flat but overall not a bad self contained story taking place in year one's storyline.

Kind of a weak follow-up to Woods' last alien story. This time, it's Amanda Ripley and Zula teaming up, which sounds great, but feels more like a game or movie tie-in with a less than interesting mission. Feeling rushed most of the time, and besides some neat kills, this is more of a forgettable story. 2.5 at the highest.

Reread 2023: Pretty much agree with my score. It's very fast read, minimal story, confusing at points too with the flow and pacing. However, the kills are nasty and the art is pretty goddamn great. So for a fast read with great art, it's worth checking out.

Well this was one of the fastest reads I've ever read.

Basically, it's a generic alien story. A crew finds three people frozen in their tubes. They try to release them. They do, but they're burned really bad. Get them to a medical bay and, yep, you guessed it. BOOM! Out of the chest comes the little aliens we all love. Then the crew goes around trying to survive while the aliens roam the ship killing and kidnapping them to harvest.

Good: The art. Well it's damn good. It's grimy, almost 80's or 90's like, but better coloring. I also thought there were some good kills and nasty bits of gorey fun. The aliens killing are always entertaining and the plotting, while light, is super quick.

Bad: The dialog is almost non-existent and when it's there it's just mostly mocho military talk, which would be fine, if you cared about anyone. And the story just kinds of ends in a generic alien fashion with a survivor and that's it...

Overall, this was a fun and quick read. I love Alien and Aliens. Some of my favorite films of ALL time. This isn't amazing like those but decent. A 2.5-3 out of 5.

I was trying to decide if I wanted to give this a 3 or a 4.

It's a pretty adrenaline rush story of a boy trying to escape the wrath of the Xenomorphs with a group of people after witnessing his mother die because one busted out of her chest. It's fast paced, sketchy art actually adds to the overall isolated feel and rough nature of these monsters. I really enjoyed the main character, a little boy, actually reacting like a kid. Scared, angry, frustrated, but not backing down. Some excellent looking shots of xenomorphs and a shot of the queen I absolutely loved.

Overall, it's a fasted paced story but fits the mold of Alien stories well and one of the better ones I read. It's more like a 3.5 but I'll bump it to a 4.

The final part of Wood's 3 part alien series before Dark Horse lost the rights (and also the fact Brian Wood accusations came out, so doubt he'd be writing for Alien much longer after this)

This takes place a few years after resistance. This time the young boy is now a grown man, Alec Brand joins the marines after the events of the last book. Thinking his two heroes, Zula and Amanda are dead he doesn't think much of his work till he finds out they're both alive and decides to join them on their mission.

I have to be honest, I wish we dug deeper into Alec and his loss of his heroes while also his struggles of being a marine. I felt we just glanced over that stuff, and the weight behind it didn't last very long sadly. I did enjoy the mission, and the actual fights against the Xenomorphs were pretty great. But overall a fun ride, better than resistance, but not as good as Defiance, which might be the best Alien story overall.

Get to see the original alien script come to live on the pages before the Alien movie we all love and care for was created.

And it's pretty solid.

A lot of the major points stick. The chest bursting scene, the very end, even the initial mission idea and going on to the planet. There's a few major changes, like taking away the Android COMPLETELY which I absolutely loved in the movie but understandable here. Also the designs are way different, and while I think the designs in the movie are perfect, I actually really enjoyed the designs here, slimy and nasty which is pretty awesome. Also Ripley is not here, instead it was Roby, a young Black Woman who hits most of the notes from the movie but a cool difference none the less.

It won't cover much new ground, but seeing it come to life before the movie was formed is pretty cool as a original script becomes a comic. A 3 out of 5.

A great start to a great series so far. The first 8 issues here deal with things like systematic racism, teen pregnancy, lost and broken, and so much more. Even with all that has the superhero flare of crime fighting with Icon being a Superman like hero and his trusty sidekick Rocket, who she deals with her own issues. Similar to a Batman/Robin situation.

Overall, great stuff. Probably my favorite of the Milestone stuff and that's saying something.

Main story staring the Supes family is great, but the rest of the stories drag it down.

It's a fun story with Black Widow teaming up with Matt. Some great back and forth, cool fights, and some even sexy moments. I will say the issue 65 was a bit overly done and not as good as it could have been.
