Another great issue.
Get to see Jon make his own path as superman. Doing it a bit different than Clark but still seeking his father advice. The art is fantastic, Jon is a great hero, and we set up his first villain. Good times are coming!

So we get a few different stories and as always, different levels of bad and good.
So let's start with Venom: The Mace. A super 80's/90's action hero decides to enter Brock's world and they each hunt each other down after trying to stop a gang war. Miscommunication brings them to eventually fight side by side. This story is very cheesy but nothing horrible just decent with some really cool fights.
Next up is Venom Nights of Vengeance. So this has a knockoff Ghost rider and Venom teaming up to take out the trash...which is basically these aliens that come down hunting a agent who venom and ghost rider knockoff are protecting. This one is honestly pretty boring with the exception of some laugh out loud funny moments of two girls fawning over fucking Venom. Like come on bro.
Then we get to actually some good stories. Venom and Ben Riley, the replacement for Peter in the 90's as Spider-man, finally meet head to head. At first they ain't bros, and it goes even worse as they beat the living shit out of each other. Scream comes in half way to be like "Hey bros, I need your help" but they both ignore her to beat the shit out of each other. Eventually Spidy beats Venom and Venom is seperated from venom.
Which leads to the best story. The symbiote and Brock not together. Now Brock must help the other Symbiote users to control theirs but none of them listen while one of them is a killer. This leads to some really fun who done it moments, great fights, cool deaths, and Brock showing he's not such a airhead.
So first two stories are just okay, bit boring, but the following two are pretty good. Some of the better 90's venom. I'll bump this one to a 4 even if it's highest a 3.5.

Luckily Starlord Mini and Nova saved this collection.
So this is mostly all build up to a mind control plot that...to be honest isn't nearly as captivating as Annihilation. This is only in name, as none of the big plot points from the original happen, least not yet. But most of the stories in here can be read by themselves without any big connection. That, I assume, will mostly be in part 2.
The Starlord Mini is basically the build towards a guardians of the galaxy type team. Except they're so offbeat, it feels more like Suicide Squad in space at first. Which actually works and is pretty fun. Besides the plot itself not being all that original, the chemistry between the characters was really solid. The Nova storyline is good too, helps build up the threat really well.
The Quaser or whatever storyline is SO boring I almost fell asleep twice. I couldn't even bother after issue 3 not to skim over it.
But yeah, this is okay. While not nearly as good as the original event, but let's see how book 2 holds up.

Okay this is a huge book so if want my breakdown you can read my reviews on the Mini-series which I posted reviews for each of these stories.
This is 90's to the max. You have big hulking Brock going around the city talking like a weirdo saying "We will save the innocent people" while looking like he gonna eat you up. You have villains from knockoff Ghost riders, DemoGoblin which is similar to HobGoblin, you have The Mace User, who is just the guy from Predator. So in other words if you think big, lots of chains, huge guns, and 90's to the max, that is all the villains and most heroes in this comic.
The interesting thing is Venom never really had a ongoing series till much later. Now most of these Mini-series are like a month or two after each other. So in a sense he did have a ongoing but it probably sold more to do mini-series. Not a bad idea. And of course it ranges from decent fun stories, to over the top silly, to downright bad.
The best stories actually usually involve Spider-Man. Peter or Ben Riley, either one, both stories were solid. I also enjoyed the story focused on Venom dealing with his symbiote and the other people who are effected by them.
Best stories to read: Venom: The enemy Within, Incredible Hulk vs Venom, web of Spider-man, Venom Separation Anxiety (best one) and Venom Lethal Protector for the sake of getting to know the real venom.
Skip: Venom Carnage Unleashed (So stupid), Venom and SIlver Stable and the wild pack, and DarkHawk crossover as well as Nightwatch (The worst one of the bunch)
Overall I don't know if I can really give this a 4. On an enjoyment, and laughing at the stupidity of it all, it's a 4. But the actual content isn't really that. So I'll settle with a 3.

This is one big ass collection. 20 issues and...it's pretty good!
The first four are basically Annihilation crossover but gives you insight to why Nova is so strong. Being the last remaining one of the Nova corp and have Worldmind, a sentient supercomputer to help him fight back makes for some fun adventures. After Annihilation crossover issues we get the best of the bunch in the collection of Richard (nova) returning to earth and trying to live a somewhat normal life.
The best part about this is him wanting really nothing to do with the Civil War events happening then. His father calling him a monster. Not fitting in with any of his old friends. He just decides fuck all that and flies off to space. Which sucks because I was learning the earth storyline but I get it.
We then get into the start of the next major crossover, Annihilation conquest. Basic this race is taking over people's minds. It's okay. Some cool starting moments, Nova almost dying, and some badass fights but the middle portion is the weakest for me. Too much talking and not enough to really say anything important.
Luckily we end really strong with a 3 issue arc of Nova trying to stop a planet from being destroyed by Galactus. When he realizes it is too late he decides to help people evacuate. This leads to Harrow, a spirit possessing people and trying to stop Nova from doing just that. Leading the Silver Surfer to come into the picture.
The ending leaves it up to Richard trying to get back his friend. I wonder how the second complete collection will end up. But so far this was pretty good. Overall about a 3.5 but I'll bump it up to a 4 out of 5.

Annihilation: Conquest, Book Two
Kyle Hotz, Dan Abnett, Javier Grillo-Marxuach, Scott Hanna, Tom Raney, Andy Lanning, Sean Chen
Way better than volume 1.
The stinker of this volume is Wraith. What a boring lame character. His issues were just the worst.
Nova's issues were a lot of fun. But the actual Conquest storyline was awesome. To watch Ultron wreck shit was a lot of fun. People actually dying left and right. Villains feeling strong and almost unstoppable is always fun to watch. While not as good as Peak Annihilation event, this was still a lot of fun.
A 4 out of 5.

The end of Cates Venom run is here!
If you read King in Black this portion will make a lot of sense. If you didn't or aren't, this feels very jumbled. The structure of what is happening to Eddie on a personal level is pretty great but to get the full picture of what is happening you need the event, which makes this book a weird tie in. Where's it mostly worked in his adventures during Absoulte carnage, here it mostly relies on you reading the event.
Saying that the story itself was interesting and fun. The very last issue is the cap to Cates run and two major events and works well to set up a lot of new and interesting ideas. I love Dylan as a character and eager to see where we go with him but also Venom and also my boy Thompson. We have so many threads happening and each one is interesting.
Overall really enjoyed Cates time on venom, probably my second favorite run behind Remender's run. A 4 out of 5.

This was pretty fun.
This is basically combining the idea after a deadly pandemic happened and many died, our main hero gets "powers" and it makes him extremely fast and strong for about 10 minutes every 24 hours. The concept is pretty cool, you get a lot of high school fun moments, and a really cool over the top cartoony art style to go with it.
I enjoyed the cast despite them all talking with odd slang. I also really enjoyed the art, made for some fantastic fight scenes I really enjoyed and everyone has their own unique look. I felt the main plot moved at hyper speed sometimes while other times slowed down. The enemy or bad guy was just okay, the weakest part of the story.
If like a very energic and fun storyline with great art I'd say this is one you should check out. A 3.5-4 out of 5.

After leaving so many bodies behind in his life Logan knew one day it would catch up to him...too bad Omega Red has other plans.
Vampires...never that fun. But this wasn't bad just felt super rushed because of sword of x event coming.
