There's no hidden meaning or, or metaphor, this is straight up a girl dating a bear.
And somehow it works?
This girl has been through the ringer. Boyfriend after boyfriend, all disappointing. Some too needed, some whining, some asshole, some even spit on her vagina (her words not mine) and it's just all no-no. She's about to give it all up when she meets bear!
Now bear at first scares her off because he's a big black fucking bear, and it would scare anyone off. But he tracks her down and one night when she's drunk she lets him in and they cuddle and then begin to date. The story basically balances comedy and romance with one of the most outrageous yet charming plots I've seen.
It helps the main character is super relatable and funny. It also helps she has a job in a call center, which I can relate too 100%. Makes for some laugh out loud moments. On top of that the chemistry between Bear and her, despite him never speaking, is cute and funny. Her friends also add some great levity moments.
The romance can only go one way. I really enjoyed most of it, and even though the ending is a little too typical, it still works. Not a mind blowing book or anything but super cute and charming. A 4 out of 5.

Black Hammer/Justice League collide to make both a funny and interesting side piece.
If you've been reading Black Hammer this takes place before the events of the last book. It has the DC characters going into the Black Hammer world and the Black Hammer characters going into the DC world. It's funny to see the different life styles and how the heroes react to the situation. And then bending and crossing over actually makes sense somehow.
It's not essential reading for Black Hammer fans but it's a fun stop. A 3 out of 5.

This first half is one of the best one piece arcs, and second half is probably one of the worst.
Saying that let's talk about why the first half is 5 out of 5. It's the second half of Arlong Park and we have all our major players fighting the big bad here. He's ruthless, strong, and a asshole. All the right things to get Luffy to smack this motherfucker down. On top of that you get so many great payoffs here, especially with Niami and her family and Luffy protecting his own. The 2nd half is them on adventures, first stop is Lounge town which isn't bad. It's pretty solid and get to see a new face, a mysterious one! The very last part of it is the worst arc when the crew gets swallowed by a whale.
Yeah. You read that right.
Saying that the last arc still has some funny moments but is far weaker. Bringing a near perfect volume down from 5 to 4.

Here we go, this volume was fucking epic.
Kankei is back with the ghouls. He's thinking, working, trying to find a solution as the One Eyed King. He needs to come up with a plan of peace, but he know it's not as simple as asking for it. He has to work with the ghouls, show power, to get any type of deal working. But what could go wrong? Oh yeah insane clown dressing up idiots bombing everyone. Will the CGC and Ghouls work together or is it a lost cause?
This has all the badass moments I wanted from RE finally here. Villains who feel dangerous, plotting from CGC and Ghouls alike, plenty of insane fights, and planning and executing orders. This gives a bit of a political side, mostly the media, and how people are portrayed. When Kankei decides to work with the ghouls he gets plenty done, and his new haircut is pretty sexy. Oh top of that the deaths here are brutal and this was one of the easier volumes to follow on what was happening.
I feel this is the strongest volume in the series cause of how clear it was. A 4.5 or even 5 out of 5.

The first half of this ties up the ghouls recruitment and clown arc. The 2nd half? We get to hang with some old friends!
The first half is exciting and fun. We get to see rescue missions, even for teh CGC, who aren't all bad. Remember that, just because the leader is insane. So after some intense battles things settle down and we get some alone time with Amon, Kankei, and more. It's all nice to see everyone talking again, joking, and relaxing. Some make major choices to leave behind their old life, some get ready for a huge revolution coming, and some are still batshit insane.
I love the more tender moments with characters. This is a easy 4.5 out of 5 for me.

The first half with the Giants was okay. Some funny moments, and get to see Luffy fight for his crew again, but it's overall too long.
Then we get to the Vivi's main quest, nami sick, and landing on a snowy area. This is a lot of fun, some amazing funny moments "hey it's cold here" from luffy especially. Oh and we get to see Chopper!!!! Overall the second half made this far more enjoyable. I'm starting to see a trend with the big volumes that I always like one half way more than the other. A 3.5 out of 5, but I'll bump it to a 4.

MY BOY KANKEI GOT LAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But seriously, finally, a normal nice sex scene in a Manga. Not over the top, not disgusting, not horrible. This was really well done.
Kankei has been through hell and back. Finally when he begins building his "family" of ghouls and focusing on working for a new future he expresses his feelings towards Touka. They make love and then things get even more complicated. Surprise moments, some major fights, two huge plot points move forward, and we are going into the final finish line here.
I think this volume was the perfect build up volume. The tender sex scene helped build those two characters well. Another character is breaking mentally. Kankei has to make some HUGE choices soon. And everything is about to come to a head. This is the Tokyo Ghoul I wanted. A 4.5 out of 5.

I felt this volume was a bit weaker than the past two.
I loved the stuff with Niomi and Batman/Superman and so on. All fun. I also enjoy all the cute moments with Lois and Superman. The Levithan storyline bleeds into here and it's presented a bit confusing and that's coming from someone who read the event. I also think the main threat isn't all that scary or interesting. Saying that the art is still fantastic and I enjoy the voice Bendis has for Superman. A 3.5 out of 5.

So much is happening I had to read it twice. The characrer growth, some amazing fight scenes, and some emotional deaths helped make this volume great. But some confusing skips and pacing hurt it at times. The author tends to do that. A 4 out of 5.
Omfg this is giving me stress. A big fucking ghoul monster is born, touka fighting to protect her baby, multiple characters working together, Urie is a goddamn badass....this volume is amazing.
