Man I forgot how much Bleach felt like Yu Yu Hakusho-lite at the start.
So what's it about? Ichigo is just a regular high school student or so you think. Once a Hollow, a dead evil spirit, begins attacking people he steps up to the plate to become a soul reaper after the original one who was sent, Rukia, was injured. He takes her power and becomes a brand new one. This is kind of like a Green Lantern opening! From then on the rest of the 3 in 1 volume has mostly stories of Ichigo hallow haunting and taking down big bads for people.
Good: The art is pretty solid. I like the design, always had. Kind of fun and goofy but with some badass shots, and the hollows look pretty cool. I also thought Ichigo and Rukia's relationship was always well balanced and of course the begining is classic.
Bad: The stories start to drag as they go. Something wrong happens, Ichigo comes and saves the day, kills the hollow, the end. While first half is fun, it starts to get on your last nerve.
I watched Bleach when I was young and LOVED it. Now? It's good but nothing special. However, the arc I REALLY enjoyed was Soul Society so let's hope that holds up. This is a 3 out of 5.

Briggs Land volume 1 really caught me off guard. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Here comes volume 2, and you never know if a series can live up to the surprise of the first one. I'm happy to report this one does!
So this is three different stories. First one we get a nice tense 3 issue arc about two people, girlfriend and boyfriend, camping in the forest but stumble upon Briggs land. This becomes a intense debate on what to do, free or kill them, all while the US Government tries to make a stand against this independent land. Then we have a nice little one shot of a girl worrying if she should have a kid or not and the debate of who these people are on the land. Then the last two parts are warfare within, betrayal for some, and a big OH SHIT moment to top it off.
Good: Loved all three stories to be honest. Each held a different feel, a different weight, and tough choices. You know good storytelling when can't relate to these alt-right nazi like racist fucks but somehow they are engaging none the less. The dialog, storyline, everything works with the pacing to make this as exciting if not MORE so than volume 1.
Bad: Some of the art, the one shot really, didn't work well. Hard to tell what was happening.
Overall Briggs Land is as strong as ever. When Brian Wood writes good he's one of my favorites. This is easily a 5 out of 5 for me. I NEED MORE!!!

And so the final moments of Tokyo Ghoul are upon us. This is the end, and all hell breaks loose.
This is the moment the cafe is under attack by the Doves. They have come to take out the one eyed ghoul. The first half is the build up, all the pieces moving into play, and getting a deeper meaning of why each character is doing what they are doing. The 2nd half is the fight, and oh my is it a bloody fucking warfare.
Good: I loved the hell out of the last few chapters. The fights, this time holding a ton of emotional weight, and you see the side of both the Doves and the Ghouls. It also has plenty of "oh shit" moment, including Kankei coming in to the picture the last minute to do some saving.
Bad: The slow build up might be hard to wade through knowing something big is brewing.
Overall this was a lot of fun. We know some people are about to die, forever, and that's scary but also exciting. The war has begun, who will survive!?

I kept battling back and forth what I should rate this. It's hard because a lot of it I do like but there's one major thing I thought didn't work.
So this is it. The War Thor goes head to head with Mangog right off the bat the final moments are on. Jane is extremely sick through most of this. Dr. Strange warns her one more time she grabs the hammer and she won't survive reverting back. Falcon, Strange, and Odinson, all watch over her so she doesn't pick up the hammer. When Mangog finally gets to asgardia Odinson and Odin team up one last time to face the mighty beast but there's one more who will join the fight to save them. THOR!!!
Good: The fights are, well...fucking EPIC. I mean if you thought the volume couldn't top War Thor verses Mangog you'd be wrong. That fight is insane but Odinson and Odin verses Mangog is just tooooooooo fucking insane. Then of course the Mighty Thor steps up to the plate and goddamn what a showdown. The pacing is breathtaking and reading it in one go is easy because it never lets up.
Bad: The ending. I was really let down. The emotional moment could have hit hard but it didn't all thanks to a cheap "Nope" moment. I really was left kind of annoyed as hell.
This would have been a easy 4.5 if it weren't for the ending. For that I'd probably lower it to a 3.5-4. But for the epic art alone and fights I gotta bump it to a 4 for rating. The fights are WORTH it, trust me.

In very Deathstroke Fashion, there's about 20 storylines all going on at once and you'll probably feel a little bit confused. Don't worry, that's the goal here. However, this one ties pretty much everything up.
What I always tell people about Deathstroke is it feels like a big family drama story with a hell of a lot of death, cursing, and taboo sexual acts. Yes, you heard me right. I don't care what they try to rewrite or change, Slade has fucked a teenager before and used her to hurt her best friends. So this all comes to a boil with Tara, his old friends, the love of his children, and his code.
So we have a storyline that follows Rose/Willow, which leads to some questionable moments with another character. We have Superman come in to town, but not Clark, our favorite chinese superman! Slade is the main star here though. He was following a new code to "not" kill anyone. However, we knew that wouldn't last. This is DEATHSTROKE, and he's always a villain.
Good: The fights are pretty brutal. Priest sets up for the artist to really let them be bloody and fucked up. There's a kid flash moment that's really harsh. I also thought the storylines all coming together was nice. Not a lot of loose ends here. The emotional bits somehow work, mostly because everyone is flawed here.
Bad: The rewriting some history and also the Rose storyline could have been better for sure.
Okay so going with a nice 4 out of 5 because, sorry, Deathstroke is always super fun. There's been some weaker volumes overall in this run but this one isn't that. This is as fun and over the top as I expected and man, Priest knows how to write this character.

Green Arrow, Volume 1: The Midas Touch
Keith Giffen, George Pérez, Ignacio Calero, J.T. Krul, Dan Jurgens, Ray McCarthy
Whoa...what happens when mix awful writing with stocky art? You get...this? What is this? This takes everything Green Arrow was and throws it out. I'm not the hugest fan of Arrow the TV show anymore but least that tried something new. This didn't try anything new. It was terrible. This is terrible. Skip this and go right to Lemire's run.
Well you do get Iron-man vs Hulk, for all of 10 pages.
So Banner comes to Stark for help. He's begging him to help him not change into the big green meanie. In doing so Stark agrees by running test on his buddy. Of course that goes wrong and bam, we run into Hulk vs iron-man. Then we have a storyline of "The Leader" who comes into play who can control minds by having a big ass brain.
Good: The fights are actually pretty great. Hulk is over the top and silly but works well. The art is pretty solid as well. I liked the banter between stark and banner aswell.
Bad: The whole origin story of the Leader. Who gives a fuck about this big headed loser? HULK SURE Don't! HULK SMASH BIG HEAD!
Overall a fun little story with nothing more or less to it. A easy 2.5 out of 5, but I'll hit it with a 3.

This was okayish. Since running low on time today make this a quickie. Taking place in the 60's a organization of superheros are trying to stop criminals and super villains from rising once again. Basically a police force of superheroes. In doing so this story is a bit of fighting, a lot of political talk, and some pretty interesting art moments. This didn't blow me away but it was good enough to finish even if it did get dull at points. A 2.5 out of 5.
Well this is the end (For the first Tokyo Ghoul series, there's another after this) but man oh man, this ended way more depressing than I thought it would (and way way different than the Anime series).
Okay so Ken has entered the fight. This is pretty much the Doves verse all the Ghouls we love but in a very bloody fashion. There's no "saving the last minute" or "We'll be okay" no it's a lot of you're dead, rip out your eyes, and getting murdered in fucked up ways. It's almost sad reading it, you can feel the emotions of these characters as they watched loved ones die. Then the end...wtf?
Good: Loved the death of so many characters. They don't feel plot protected. I also enjoyed Kankei's emotional roller-coaster here and his ups and downs. The end result of this volume gives you so chill vibes, the darkness, and the loss of war.
Bad: It gets a bit confusing who's talking and sometimes a bit too many characters on one page to tell who is who at times.
Overall a great, and very dark, way of closing the first half of the series. Now to charter completely unknown territory.
