The world of this book immersed me from the first few panels. The horror appears fantastical until the reveal makes it clear that it's a very tangible terror.

I love this series. And I was shocked to find out that this was the second book in a series instead of a dulogy, because so much was happening, but it didn't feel like many second books where they feel a little lost and purposeless. Also love how physically and emotionally strong Sunny became in this book, without losing her intense fear of the dangerous entities that they faced. So excited there is another book to look forward to!

Similar to other reviewers, I was disturbed by how Shori looked like a 10 year old. Really liked the story but that one element really disturbed me and disrupted my ability to engage with all of the critical pieces of the world and story.

Especially given that the author is not trans, this story just felt like trauma after trauma, and I felt disconnected from the main character - perhaps on purpose, because she very much buries deep inside herself. If this were Own Voices by a trans author, I would assume she is drawing on her own experience, but given that the author is not trans, I have mixed feelings about this portrayal of a trans story.

I could not put this book down.

I feel like I missed something with this one, because everyone who recommended it really liked it. The art did not appeal to me as much and I didn't feel as connected to the characters as I wanted to.
