It's a fun premise....

For a smutty dark romance it's good. The writing wasn't trash, there was a plot and a very fun premise. They actually like each other and build a relationship and there's lots of pining. The characters were a little cookie cutter and readers are told about their personalities instead of really experiencing them IMHO. Also this may be a me problem, I felt that for a book about murder, that that part could have been more.... Well more.

Review TLDR: Meh. It's fine. Not scary.

Everything felt very spelled out from the beginning, even as someone who doesn't remember the plot of Poe's Usher when I read it as a child. And additionally, as someone who has not really read much horror

There was little suspense, and the parts that were discomforting, the body horror, were few and far between. Roderick and Madeline's madness seemed to not feel all that present either.
