It didn't grab me like Thomas' other books have. I'm not sure if it's because it's a retelling or because it's not Thomas' usual world-building masterpieces, but I cannot listen to it anymore.
I have no idea what is going on. It's not written very well, not in the usual style of Margaret Weis that I'm used to. There's too much explanation for world building yet not enough at the same time. We've gone from a girls birthday party to war in very little time with no tension, no build up, just "Hey here's Monday morning, here's Tuesday evening, the end." Also Destina? As a girl born of Destiny?
While the first book was very good and gripping, I got bored with this one. Knowing what happens afterwards is why I don't like prequels. I know the MC won't die, isn't seriously injured, etc because the first book has them alive. Nothing against Travis Baldtree or their writing as I find it intriguing; I just didn't find it interesting enough to finish.
