I was really interested in the backstory of this villain and this graphic novel gave real insight to that. The artwork was both dark and nostalgic for Disney. It has intrigued me to read Serena Valentino's Villains novels. However, I found the ending of this version really rushed and I felt it could be much more.

I would have loved to rate this higher, because I this book opened my eyes to many interesting myths from around the world - I went down a few research rabbit holes online after reading this book. Also, there were certain stories within the collection which I would rate 5 stars - Attem, Nefertiti, Zhinu - but sadly not all of them. Some of the myths were so modernised they felt like cliche romances set in schools and offices, rather than maintaining some of their magic. A really difficult book to review, when some aspects were so excellent and others disappointed.

The language and imagery in this book was super unique, and gave me a new perspective on my own loss
dark mysterious tense medium-paced

Would have given five stars had the writing style been more accommodating. However, I loved the dark academia, rivalry, jealousy, and obsession themes.
