Gabrielle Zevin is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.

The most beautiful, moving, shocking epic I have ever read. I will be recommending my tear-stained copy to all of my friends. 

I enjoyed this more than any other Ali Hazelwood story I have tried - the YA plot made me more accepting of the pop culture references and writing style. I was actually invested in the romance and found the illusions to chess were cleverly mirrored to other aspects of the story.
