I have had this book for so long and been put off by the 80's and gamer themes thinking I would not relate to them... how I was mistaken. This story is so action-packed, fast-paced, and full of puzzles for readers and characters alike to solve. I had so much fun reading this and I genuinely could not put it down. 

Endpapers is a great story for those interested in the concepts of identity and oppression in New York in the early 2000's. I enjoyed the mystery of a secret love letter, the historical references to 9/11 and Nazi Germany, and the discussions of gender and sexuality. If you want a more mature (and better written) version of Felix Ever After this is the book to read! It dragged out a little towards the end but the main story kept me engaged and I was empathetic with all the characters.

This book was recommended by a friend and she knows me well! I loved the found family tropes, the romance which made my heart stammer, and the wonderful fantasy elements. The characters did not have much depth but the plot is so much more important for the purpose - a great story about grief, loss, love, and reinvention. Plus there was a dog. What's not to like?

This story was moderately underwhelming given my intrigue to the fairytale wonder of the Winternight Trilogy. The story was very long and written at a slow pace, but there was a lot of depth to the characters, some making me feel viscerally angry or prideful, with many layers of meaning to the story. 

Adventurous and fun. The imagination of a child is embedded in this fantastical story. On each page the mundane is turned into the magical through series of metaphors. Even the adult characters are heartwarming with their acceptance, and Captain Flint reminded me of someone very special. The novel had a slow start and did not explore some of the sentimental aspects of the characters that I liked. Nonetheless a riviting end! 

I don't often read thrillers but Lisa Jewell is my go-to. Each novel I have read has been packed with suspense and disturbing psychology and this story was no different. The story discusses family dynamics after trauma and contains a distressing mystery. I really enjoyed the multiple POV which garnered an insight into each characters motivations and perspectives of others. A little slower than some of her other mysteries but ultimately just as gripping.

I had high hopes for this highly-rated enemies to lovers narrative but felt slightly let down. Whilst I did enjoy the suspense of their letter writing in the beginning of the novel and the excitement with their romance, this was eclipsed by my disappointment in the rest of the story. There is very little world building for a book so grounded in fantasy and little information about the backstory of the war until the second half of the book. This gave it a faster pace but left me feeling lost at times. In contrast, the second half of the book had very little romance and too much war - it was so fast paced it was as though every sentence was "and then..." "and then..." "and then..." whilst the characters barely interact. Rebecca Ross knows how to write love letters and suspense, I enjoyed it, but with further revision I believe it could have been improved. 

There were elements of this book I enjoyed (depictions of different cities and the mystery of Harold's life with Maureen), but these were outweighed by the elements I didn't like. The inspirational moments of meeting new people and reflecting on life were far too repetitive, the ending felt unnecessarily traumatic and disturbing for people who expected an uplifting story, and the writing style felt cheesy. A bit of a disappointment.
