This is a “it’s not you, it’s me” situation. I’m just not in the mood for snarky YA fantasy right now. I’ll pick this up another time and probably love it.
I was more interested in the political/historical aspects of this book than the personal parts about the author’s life, which seemed to dominate the book
Just not in the mood for this right now
Maybe I would have liked this book if I finished it, but I couldn’t get into it. Jumping around to different women’s points of view, but they all seemed like the same character. I would have been invested in one or two but not so many who were so similar.
I learned that the author interacted with readers on social media in a very rude and inappropriate way, so I no longer want to read this. Also there are themes of domestic violence and child rape written in a way that is hinting that as a reader I’m supposed to empathize with these men? No thanks.
I imagine if I had pushed through this would have been a solid 3 star read. I liked it well enough while reading it. But I found myself doing other things rather than reading, never feeling compelled to pick it up.
I loved the first two hours but then it really shifted and I could not bring myself to care about the plot or the characters anymore.
Nothing against this book, I just took too long of a break from it and can’t get back into it.
Really don’t like the writing style. Simplistic and feels almost condescending.
