This book was really interesting, and also absolutely ridiculous. Each chapter made me so glad that modern medicine has advanced to the point where some of these wild treatments have been laid by the wayside. There were so many interesting facts that I learned from this book, crazy treatments that I had never heard of, and a lot of humor. I really enjoyed this book. If you are into weird things or medical history, this is a great book. I have the Audible version, but the physical copy is around 300 pages.

This book outlines the 1895 murder case involving Robert and Nattie Coombs. Robert and Nattie, thirteen and twelve, were noticed spending large sums of money and going around London without any type of parental supervision. When questioned, the boys stated that they were left home alone while their mother went out of town to visit relatives and friends. A family member eventually gained entrance to the home, where the body of the boys' mother was discovered terrifically decomposed. Robert eventually confessed to stabbing her, but the case took a few more turns. I really like old historical cases, and I also really enjoy the work I have read thus far by this author. I have another written by this author that I am looking forward to getting to this year. If you are into older Victorian Era crimes, do yourself a favor and check out this author.

Chicago is a 1975 Broadway production based on a play, also called Chicago, that was written by Maurine Dallas Watkins. Watkins reported on criminals for the Chicago Tribune. She reported on several female criminals, for which she based the characters of her play on. The production was widely successful, eventually becoming a film that featured some A list casting. Renee Zellweger played Roxie Hart. Catherine Zeta Jones played Velma Kelly. Richard Gere played Billy Flynn, a lawyer. I personally love that movie, so this book was especially interesting to me. I really enjoyed learning about the original Broadway production and the people behind the characters. I also enjoyed that this was available on Audible Plus!

I preordered this book on Audible, and it arrived on my phone today. I listened to it during my shift at work. It was around a six hour listen. I am seeing the author speak at CrimeCon this weekend, so I really wanted to hurry up and read this one so I could know what he was speaking about. I am excited to hear him speak more about this topic. The book presented a lot of thought provoking information, and mentioned cases I had never heard of. I learned a decent amount about trucking, of which I knew nothing. I also learned that there are entirely too many creeps from Tennessee and that there is a whole sex work operation in Bristol. I found the book to be pretty interesting.

Lady Jane Grey was the granddaughter of King Henry VII. She was the first cousin once removed of Henry VIII's children. When Edward VI, was dying, he nominated Lady Jane to assume the throne of England. He removed his sisters, Mary I and Elizabeth I, from the line of succession in doing this. All of this caused quite a controversy and ended up in the execution of Lady Jane Grey. Nicola Tallis is a wonderful author and historian, and her books are very informative, interesting, and superbly well researched.

This book was required reading for my Colonial America class. I did not find this book to be particularly interesting, nor do I enjoy the class. If you are interested in Colonial America, you may like this book. I did not.

The Serengeti is located in Tanzania, Africa. The Serengeti National Park encompasses 5,700 square miles of protected area. It is home to the largest lion population in Africa, zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest. A host of other animals inhabit the area as well, in smaller numbers than the aforementioned ones. Big cats, such as leopards and cheetahs, elephants, many species of birds, warthogs, hippos, and smaller animals all live in this area. Bernhard Grzimek, a European wildlife conservationist, worked hard to advocate for the protection of this area and the animals that inhabited it. I learned a lot from this book about the region and the establishment of the National Park. This book is currently available on Audible Plus, and was around 12 hours to listen to.

Theresa Brown takes readers on a journey with her through a shift in a nursing career. We probably all know at least one person who has had some form of cancer. This book takes you through the cancer ward, getting to know the ins and outs of the medical side of the illness. We also meet some patients who made a lasting impression on the author of the book. This was a really moving book, and it offered a perspective I must admit I hadn't really considered much until now. This book is currently available on Audible Plus, and is around 6ish hours to listen to. If you are interested in the physical copy, it is less than 300 pages.

This book is the personal memoir of Cory Franklin, and discusses his career in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital. I typically enjoy memoirs, and I typically enjoy medical related stuff. Some of the stories are moving or just wild to imagine. I was assuming this book would be full of those, but I found it to be kind of dull. It was free to listen to on Audible Plus, and was around five hours long. The physical copy is just under 300 pages. If you are interested in this type of material, don't let my opinion discourage you from giving it a try. Sometimes, people just cannot get into things, and that is okay. If you choose to listen, I hope you enjoy it!
