This book discusses all of the ways that people managed to die in the Middle Ages, as well as what their bones can tell us about how they lived their lives. This book was very educational, and I am looking forward to reading the other books by this author. I didn't know this was book three in a series, but now I have to read the rest.

This book discusses various funerary rituals across the globe. The photographs featured in the book were solidly the best part.

I found this book in the free books bin at McKay's a while back. I thought it was simply a prison memoir, but it was a lot more than that. This book does discuss the white-collar crimes of the author, but the more interesting aspect of this book was certainly being incarcerated in a facility that housed people that had Hansen's disease. Hansen's disease, also known as leprosy, results from a life-long infection of a bacteria. Even today, the way this disease is spread isn't entirely clear. It is thought to spread in a similar manner to influenza. Luckily, this disease is now curable with drug therapy. Leprosy can affect facial structures and cause limb deformities if left untreated. The author of this book was sent to Carville, a leprosarium turned prison that now houses the Louisiana National Guard. Patients were allowed to remain there with minimum security prisoners. The author relates the stories of patients and inmates, and how he learned to be more accepting of things he didn't understand. The book was interesting, and certainly worth the price I paid for it...which was nothing.

I got this book because I liked System of a Down, but it was really cool getting to know Serj Tankian as a person. He seems like such an intentional and genuine person. I learned far more about Armenian culture and the Armenian genocide from this book than I ever did in school. I think the work that Serj and the band did to raise awareness for the genocide and demand recognition for it was so commendable. I really enjoyed this book!

Mary Church Terrell was a member of the elite in Washington D.C. She attended parties, balls, and other events. She dined with wealthy, influential people, both African American and White. She was well educated, with a love for learning. She was eloquent. She was beautiful. She was courageous. She was involved in several Civil Rights organizations, as well as organizations that supported both African American and White women's interests. She criticized the President for his inaction in some instances and his poor actions in others. She wrote many articles thoroughly condemning Jim Crow laws and other injustices against African American people. Her experiences outlined in this book were inspiring and so important to the historical record.
This book was required reading for a class I am taking, but I am glad that I got to read it. I had never heard about this woman before. I also know very little about African American history, which is the point of taking this class. This was a good read.

This book gives a very interesting history of people's first documented encounters with tornadoes, the fledgling weather service and meteorology as a science, and mini biographies of some major players in the US Army Signal Corps and other weather services. I learned some interesting facts from this book, and I would strongly recommend this for anyone who is interested in weather. This book is currently free to listen to on Audible Plus, which is where I listened.

I am currently taking an African American history class, in which this volume and the prior volume are required reading. I found this volume to be equally as engaging and informative as the prior volume. I learned a lot from both of these books, and have enjoyed this class more than I thought I would.

I am currently taking a class about slavery, and this book was the required reading for it. The book was really informative, giving history of Africa as well as a lot of information about enslavement. I normally do not enjoy the textbooks required, but this one was good.

Mark Morton is a founding member and guitar player of Lamb of God. This memoir discusses how he found his love of music and guitar, his struggles in the music industry when he was getting started, personal issues, drug addiction, and some behind the scenes things about Lamb of God. The book was entertaining, emotional, and well-written. I enjoy learning about bands that I enjoy and the people behind them. I enjoy learning about how certain things transpired to create songs and music I love. I preordered this on Audible, and I am so glad that I did. I listened to it yesterday at work, and thoroughly enjoyed the candidness of Mark Morton.

I got this book on the Audible sale recently, and I am pleased with the purchase. It took me a couple of days to get through at work, but it was worth it. The book featured some of the more well-known nuclear incidents, such as Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and the nuclear bomb lost off the coast of Tybee Beach. (Imagine all the tourists swimming around Tybee not knowing they are swimming around over a nuclear bomb.) It also featured a lot of lesser-known nuclear incidents, which I found to be particularly interesting. I have no idea why I read stuff like this...I have a nuclear plant 20ish miles to the north of my house and 20ish miles to the south. This always gives me weird feelings. At any rate, this was a solid book if you are into this type of thing.
