An absolutely stunning read.
The way the author looks at non-binary and interweaves that with African mythology is amazing. This book is ideal for anyone who struggles to love themselves at times. The book looks at a world that is ready to exploit the most vulnerable.

This is a queer retelling of Jane Austens Northranger Abbey. I am disappointed that a lot of the gothicness of the original story has been removed. The story at times felt like it was forcing a narrative like sending the MC to live on a ranch to make money -it felt slightly orchestrated. I eventually stopped comparing it to the original by Jane Austen and then enjoyed it much more. It addresses homophobia is a small town., as well as outsiders in a small town. This graphic novel is a gay ranch romance that’s low on the spice scale.

This is a dark humoured Queer romance. I enjoyed the Dual POV. The book addresses coming out in a small town. Coming out to family. The death of a partner. I found the book capture the diversity of the coming out experience. I also like how the book really looked head on at grief and what it looks like. It also showed how beautiful relationships are are how complicated they can be at the same time.

I prefer medium paced stories. I find myself wanting more detail in a lot of areas. The pace is so fast the author is often telling rather than able to show us. If you’re not a big fan of description this book is for you. Description are minimal and the book is fast paced. The characters are authentically queer and cute in a fantasy setting

This young adult book is fun and ideal for a reader who enjoys astrology and poetry. The FMC is closeted Lesbian and suffers form compulsory heterosexuality and lands up in a relationship with a boy she likes a friend only.
FMC falls in love with one girl who doesn’t like her back but she eventually finds her match in Morgan.
This book is funny and upbeat while addressing these serious issues.
The main FMC is such a loveable character. Her best friend doesn’t always get it right but is open to learning.

I read somewhere that this is a winter read and in New Zealand it’s currently winter. I honestly enjoyed this read .The dark element are dark not Disney dark and yet it’s littered with elements from fairytales. While a Fae Y/A book , I wouldn’t recommend it for fans of ACOTAR. They are on completely opposite sides of the fae/fantasy spectrum. The main focus of relationships in this books is the brothers not the periphal love interest. I also love that the illness journey was something they did as a team rather than leaving the brother to face it alone.
I do think this is a book I would have loved in middle grade.
I really liked that the illness journey was something all the characters went on together instead of the one character needing to do it on their own.
