Honestly, this book was frustrating from beginning to end. I cannot stand female leads who have zero self-control when the stakes clearly are extremely high, and Ana is exactly that. Every time it felt like the group was making progress, she’d blow their cover with some emotional outburst that made no  sense whatsoever. Why would you react to seeing the broker at an event like that? What was she going to do, fight him in front of everyone?

It just kept getting worse. By the time I got to the third part of the book, I genuinely had to pause because, genuinely, I hate when authors do this thing where they make the protagonist reckless to move the plot along. She literally ruined a whole plan because she couldn’t keep calm. And then, as usual, she turns around to apologise like she wasn’t aware of her actions the whole time. It’s infuriating.

Ramson also wasn’t any better. His decision making was also just as questionable, like him trying to outsmart Aleric when Aleric had clearly already figured him out. Both MCs felt like they were fumbling through a plot that honestly just needed sharper or smarter minds.

And the most annoying thing of all? Ana constantly falling for traps. Over and over. And then in Chapter 30 I think, instead of considering that Ramson might’ve been set up, she’s out here just jumping to it being betrayal on his part. So quick to doubt and so slow to think logically. Did I already mention how annoying it all was?

By the ending, I had honestly just given up hope. Because even though the final scenes had the kind of emotional weight that could have worked, I was already too frustrated to even feel anything. I think the  writing tried to bring some gravity to the ending, but I just couldn’t even care anymore. Ana might be the blood heir, but honestly? She was way too easy to outwit to rule anything or anyone. I hope she fails.
