DNF at 40%

I feel like I'm crazy for this. How does a book with such high reviews bore my brains out? I haven't been this disappointed since "Heaven and Earth Grocery Store".

I think I have 2 huge issues with this book. the first is that this feels like a "Nickel Boys" fan fiction with ghosts. they're both based off the same school. Both have almost the same exact setting.  "Nickel Boys" (though o don't think it was perfect) executed almost every factor better.

My second big issue is the pacing. This book is glacial. I made it over 200 pages in and still was forcing myself to pick it up every time. Maybe this book gets better, but I wanted to DNF it at 25%, but I gave it a bit longer. I wish I hadn't.

Do I think this book is bad? I mean, i didn't like it, but I can understand those who do. I think I maybe would've liked this book if I had read it several years ago. Don't let my 1 star review stop you from reading it. I think its definitely worth giving it a shot. this just didnt work in any way for me

This book was too short. The author brushed by incredibly emotional and important things. She could've made this twice as long and added a bit more detail and context. That would've made this at least a 4 start book.
