We’ve outgrown Tolkien. 

At first was interesting but then the pursuit of Japanese war criminals for executing 3 innocent soldiers when Americans killed thousands of non combatant civilians (a war crime on a much larger scale) and got away with it because they won the war was sickening. 

Callous animal cruelty was just too much 

Animal sacrifice and arson were too triggering. Noped on out of there. 

The MC annoyed and bored us

Difficult to understand because Kendi tried to read the prose like it was poetry, inserting odd pauses and emphases. 

This is just one instance in which we caught him destroying his own argument and holding forth when he doesn’t know what he’s talking about:

Just listening to chapter 7 of How to be an AntiRacist and the author has just gone off about how it’s racist that Ebonics is considered a dialect of English or broken English when English isn’t considered a dialect of Latin or broken German. Hold up there, mister! That’s linguistics, not racism! And just a few sentences ago you literally said Ebonics is like Creole or other patois, and guess what “broken Language” is a derogatory synonym for? Patois! And what are patois defined as linguistically? Dialects! You just borked your own argument!

The author contradicted herself multiple times, had a colonialist attitude, made questionable decisions, and came off as toxically narcissistic. There was little actual scientific or ethnographic data and we were forced to question her veracity.
