I found this book ehh and found this was a really hard book to get through. I was not excited to read it each time I picked it up, and would have just marked it as a DNF and moved onto another book if it were not a bookclub pick.
Historical fiction in general is not my go-to genre, but with the topic being World War 2, this book having such a high overall book rating on Goodreads, and the fact that it’s being made into a Netflix limited series, I was hopeful and thought I would enjoy it more than I did. Another Goodreads reviewer mentioned that while the author was very detailed in their writing, they felt blind like Marie-Laure as they were not able to picture a thing; I completely felt like this for a lot of the book. I had a really hard time focusing on what I was reading. I enjoyed the chapters focusing on Marie-Laure a lot more than the ones focusing on Werner, but it still didn’t make up for the book in my opinion. I found myself continually thinking “I’m just ready for this book to be over already.” Just was not that interesting of a book to me.
