I have now officially read all 4 of the books written by Carrie (thus far - I hope there’s more to come!) and I enjoyed this one just as much as her others even though it was different. This book was a heartfelt coming-of-age novel that had themes of identity, family dynamics, and the transformative power of unexpected relationships. I thought this was inspiring and thought-provoking. I loved seeing Ben’s growth throughout the story and how Ren helped him to heal. I also loved Ren’s “rules” and advice she gave Ben to help him navigate his new world.
Similar to the first book, Kingston’s Project, this was well written and quite the page turner. I loved seeing previous scenes from the first book sprinkled in but from Marcus’s perspective and learning more about Marcus & his relationship with Sarah and where they are in the present time of the book. This was a great continuation of the first book, but can see it being read as a standalone (although I will always recommend to read Kingston’s Project first). Again, I also liked how this book continued to touch on the same disease I would have never heard of otherwise if I hadn’t read these books. I would highly recommend!
