Love Butler's critical look at psychoanalysts, other feminists, and philosophers. I only wish this specific book had more of her own original theory as opposed to containing mostly a deconstruction or critique of the work of others.
A classic. An excellent tale of how vanity and an obsession with youth is vapid and pointless and can lead to corrupt behaviors. The story is well written and generally well paced and some nice underhanded gay/queer/bi content. A negative for modern readers will be the way in which Arabic men, Indian men, and African men are stereotyped (in chapter 11 or 12 I believe).
3.5-4 stars. Hard to rate. It’s not enjoyable and addictive the way that a fast paced thriller is but it’s definitely an experience. Feels dreamlike and bizarre, like looking through a kaleidoscope. A little repetitive but that repetition is more crucial to the themes therein.
