This is a true escapism read.
Fast-paced, accessible and engaging.

As a romance it fell a bit flat. Their love story happens so fast it borders on insta-love for me. Since their romance couldn’t hold its own and the stakes of the work/project were not as high, once it was finished (about a third into the book) the story started to drag and dwindle a bit.

Finn buying Amber a house after knowing each other for ~4 months is WILD but good for her!!

However, if you can suspend your disbelief and enjoy the ride it’s actually an enjoyable quick read.

The Orphanage By The Lake

DID NOT FINISH: 6%

the author has  said “spring of kinked hair” and “a face as round and as flat as a pancake” describing a black girl and an Asian man 🫠😵‍💫
That’s enough for me

I’ll be backkk

This was extremely sweet!
Bri & Jacob are literal soulmates. The anxiety rep was really good and I loved how Jimenez would connect little details over and over.
However, the miscommunication is a major plot device and that almost killed me.
fast-paced

Ahed’s story is infuriating, upsetting and should make anyone that reads it want to take actions to free Palestine.
I truly enjoyed learning about her story, which I knew very little of prior to this, from her own words. I think this does a good job on giving context to for those who may not know much about what’s been occurring in occupied Palestine at the hands of Israel for the past 76 years.
Wild what a regular day in the West Bank could be, how children are imprisoned, how loads of international laws violated daily and how insanely inhumane this occupation is!!
Ahed, her family, her village and the Palestinian people are beyond courageous. May Palestine be free in our lifetime ♥️

Not this taking me a full month to read…
When I was reading it I was engaged, but felt no desire to pick it up otherwise (other than Erica reminded me to finish our buddy read already lol sorry!!) There are so many ways in which I relate to Daphne and Miles yet they felt slightly one dimensional to me. Certain aspects of the story were just glossed over (e.i. the exes betrayal).

Overall, the proses were there but the plot and vibe left me wanting more. Also since this is a romance, I think I should at least root for the leads and I honestly felt indifferent.

Ashleigh tbh carried the story for me.

Honestly, kinda iconic.

I went into this super blind and was happily surprised. This is a book about class, wealth, family dynamics and perceptions…all while being incredibly funny.

The commentary on that millennial/gen Z need to have absolution from horrid (and in this case, generational) things in which we’re systematically a part of was greatly depicted here. Funny enough through characters that are privileged and most of the time out of touch.

Now the writing!!! It had me hooked. It was seamless and unassuming. Greatly accessible for a book about the exclusive lol.

This is one I’ll probably be thinking about long after finishing it.

“Have you ever paused and wondered 'Am I actually a good person? Or am I moving through this world making things a little worse instead of better?'" ... "Have you ever felt like you just couldn't keep going down the same path, and that you needed to stop and really evaluate what it meant to be a part of this planet? What it meant to be a good human?"
medium-paced

As a romance it fell flat to me but as a comedy it was quite funny.
They’re insanely immature which made for a funny story. But I still cannot understand why they like each other.

“Shout out to cork!!” - Ayo Edebiri

70% vibes, 30% plot. This was engaging and slightly comforting to read. It had great proses and commentary on class, growing up, family etc. Kinda saw some of the twists coming but the writing is so good you feel like you’re in Rachel’s head as it’s all unfolding.
Also, I learned about Irish abortion rights.
