Though I don't think this book works as a poetry book I do think it works as a memoir. The writings are devastating and heart breaking and informative. It is one thing to hear about this tragedy on the news and a whole different thing to hear it from someone who has lived it.
I felt the same after learning about the Russian Ukraine war from a Russian citizen. The fear and heartbreak that war brings is traumatizing and Toha showcases this experience through this book.

This book wasn't bad by any means but I did enjoy Island of Sea Women more. This story is an important one and Lisa See continues to showcase the many stories of Asian women in an interesting way while also doing her research.
I will definitely continue to follow any new books she puts out while catching up on the backlog of women led stories.
