The illustrations were fantastic, but I was expecting it to be more scary. All the short stories sound like simple spooky tales kids would tell one another, but nothing gory or downright horrible. I kept getting to the end of the stories wondering "that was it?" Feeling like the stories would only be hardly ramping up to get going and suddenly ending just when I felt a story should be taking off.

This is such a fun manga. Funny and cute cosmic horror kitties. It kinda helps if you know even a little bit of Cthulhu, but the manga does provide some explanation. There's really no need for explanation, it's all madness, and that's kinda the point, so chill and enjoy the insanity.

Everything seemed... cobbled together. Like... it's trying to show Jonathan Harker's story and tell more of Dracula's history, but making Jonathan a child was weird. And Dracula with cat/wolf ears... why? I imagine the confusion that the reader is in, trying to make sense of it all, is what they're trying to convey how Jonathan feels and is experiencing. I think it doesn't quite match the confusion of horror, but more of "why did they do that" sort of curiosity of the absurd.
There is a very uncomfortable moment... most uncomfortable because it's happening to a child. Had Jonathan been an adult like in the original story it wouldn't be so bad.

Audiobook review
I loved the poetry. Having it spoken with the intent and ferocity of slam poetry sessions was fantastic. The story flowed so well through the poems.
The story follows a 15-16 year old girl that goes by X. She was raised to be a devote catholic, but as any teenager she questions the world around her, trying to find her place in the world. What she learns about herself, her interests, her beliefs, and her reasoning, contradicts the life that's been laid out in front of her by her parents.
I loved the juxtaposition between X's assignment rough drafts versus the final drafts.
You will get uncomfortable at times. You're supposed to get uncomfortable. Welcome to a world of learning what it is to be wading through uncertainty and contradiction; with trying to understand new feelings while being told that those feelings are wrong even though they feel so right.

The book that spawned Dr. Strangelove. It's very similar, albeit much more serious. Little comedy. I could literally see some of the scenes from the movie.
Soooo many typos. Luckily it didn't ruin the read. I can recall only having to stop and figure out what was being said once or twice because of it, which I know to some would be a deal breaker. For a 35 cent book (in 1958) I'm sure they weren't too worried about proofreading, so I'm not gonna hold it against them.
It's not the ending I wanted, and all too much depended on luck to provide the ending it delivered. It's supposed to be tense and a "look how close" sorta relief.
I loved the Alabama Angel crew. You could tell most of the heart was in those segments.

It took me 3-4 relistens of the first 3 hours to figure out what the heck was going on. Not for lack of writing skill, I was distracted the first time, but the level of details, being introduced to 4 different stories and trying to wrap your head around each of them and not forgetting anything from the get go wasn't easy.
It was fun to see how each of the stories read a little different than each other, keeping with the character's personality and thought process, to what they notice.
Not a happy tale. Very much a huge gut punch.
