Wonderful writing, gripping plot. A gritty sometimes extremely dark tale around wartime and those involved. Listened on audiobook form, very amazing reading!

3.5⭐

After a recent reread, this novel showed more of itself than I remember. I was able to come up with my own theories of who Holden Caufield is meant to represent and have my own ideas as to who he is for the reader.

I stand by my initial reading: the writing/narration is truly hard to swallow. It's difficult to see past the narrators "-isms" as they can be quite grating and can get boring very quickly.

However, looking past Salinger's writing style, the themes and ideas in the novel are very interesting and lead me to think that this may be a must-read for anyone. I believe that anyone can read this and find something within themselves to resonate with Holden and at least feel something when reading this book. If anything, you can read it and brag about how you read "Catcher in the Rye."
