I wanted to love this book. I did. But I cannot.
Anish projects her insecurities about weight and eating habits onto her readers. For some reason I expected this book to show her progress through mental illness, but instead, this is a complete descent into madness that is damaging for those who might look up to her. Fat phobic and shameful, it was difficult for me to empathize with Anish at all. She comes off as snotty and narcissistic. I was hoping the trail would teach her that.
Additionally, it is quite evident that Anish is not a writer. She is a thru-hiker, and definitely an accomplished, well-established athlete. I wish her editor had caught many of the grammatical and spelling errors.
