This was heartbreaking and thoughtful. The way the author referred to each character by their title to diminish them and make them more relatable was interesting and also hard to read. This is like handmaid's tale but what could (will?) happen in the USA. The pacing was a little slow for me

This is my favorite book of the series so far. It felt like Yarros went to (YA) fantasy boot camp, there was more complete world building and a clearer political structure. The romance took a back seat in many ways which helped the story move forward at a reasonable pace.

A bit of a slow start, but an absolutely beautiful trans story in a fantasy. I especially loved the feelings the characters had during sex, and the way they talked about comfort and consent, a perfect depiction for a YA audience.
