This is the second time I've read this book. I noticed more things than I did the last time. It's truly a lovely, heartbreaking work of fiction. I've read so few queer historical fiction pieces that worked as well as this one. I long for more of this author's works.

3.5 I think I get what the point of this book is, and I appreciate that it had some things to say. I think overall, though, it just doesn't say it successfully. Maybe that's because it is YA and sometimes YA books don't go as hard on their point as adult novels do, or maybe it's just a problem of the novel itself. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it, which is more than I can say about most YA thrillers anyway,
