I cannot wait for everyone to get to read this in a few weeks. Angie Thomas is incredible and this story is powerful and necessary. I think it might turn off certain audiences because it super calls out many groups including middle class white kids. I adore everything about this and I hope this gets the same hype as THUG. Also just putting it out there it would be an awesome Netflix series (and they owe us for canceling The Get Down)

2.5 stars. The biggest problem I have with this book is that Fiona and Joe (arguably the two characters we are supposed to have the most connection to) are flat and dull. The author breathes brief life into Renee and Caroline and leaves nothing for the other Skinner siblings. I find none of the messages about love resonate with me nor the family drama that seems hyper realistic. It dragged on for 350 pages and the last hundred pages felt like two hundred.
