My biggest issue with this book is that it is not a mystery. At no point is there something unexpected or surprising. I kept hoping to be wrong and to find something new but alas I was disappointed. It’s not even a thriller. It’s just a book where things happen and people are boring. The whole problem with this book is that every major player is dull and so the terrible plot of it just lays there on the page as characters you don’t care about go on about their lives.

This was a fun read. It reminded me a lot of Kill the Boy Band. There’s lots of moments of teenagers acting like real teens and lots of moments of gross horror movie moments, all of which worked to form a read that, if not the most unique story, manages to be interesting and entertaining. Loved the fat POC lead character and loved all the moments of unapologetic fat love. I would be interested in reading another book in this same world if the author ever got around to it.

3.5 stars. I mean... it was fine? I liked a lot about it but also the plot was a little long winded, particularly when there’s only one real possibility as to who the villain ends up being. If it wasn’t for the f/f romance (which I adored) it would have been just another teen fantasy novel. I was hoping for something a little more. Maybe in the sequels we will get more world building.

I fucking love this book. I loved GoL a lot but this managed to be even better. It surprised me often in a lot of great ways. I laughed, I worried, I squealed, I gasped. This is not your MCU Loki, these are not your comic book gods. Harris has a firm grasp of what makes the Norse Mythos so enchanting and perfect. I cannot stress enough how fun this series is to read.

I liked this a lot more after re-reading it. Simon is still clueless, and sometimes that makes him intolerable but I still love the book.

I’m struggling with what to say about this book. The problem is I liked the first two parts very much and disliked the second two parts. I found that I didn’t care about the older two siblings and in particular I found that the last part didn’t have much to capture me. I wanted to love this book, I was looking forward to it. But between the kill your gays and the disjointed end of the book, it’s only getting 2.5

This book reminds me of the classic lit I read as a kid. It has all the makings of a classic fantasy adventure. Although it’s marketed as teen, i think kids as young as 11 or 10 could get a lot out of this book. Super solid world building and colorful characters make it difficult to put the book down. A must read for sure.
