This book has an amazing premise and the world is built better than most Zombie books I've read. I was really interested in the world and invested in its well being. I liked the mystery of it (though a lot of the book seemed pretty obvious) and I enjoyed the overall tone of the novel. Having said that, the book has problems. It gets increasingly preachy about the characters and, I suspect, the author's political opinions. Normally I don't mind this in books but the characters are often so repetitive in their opinions that it becomes obnoxious. Repetition is a problem throughout the book. We are told in Chapter One that Shaun only calls Georgia by her full name when he's upset or worried. This information is repeated at least four more times in the book. The same is true of a lot of facts and opinions in the novel. The book could be shorter without them. Another issue is that the bad guy is obvious very early on to the reader. I would have liked more of a twist or something to keep the good and bad guys from being as clear cut as they ended up being.

Having said that it is probably the single most interesting book I've read about zombies. I love the world and feel like it would make a great role playing game if she could ever find a company willing to make a system for it.
