really fun! learned a lot and felt very ~seen~

a bit pretentious but alas i love alison bechdel

alison cochrun is amazing. her taylor swift obsession is relatable and she creates some of the best characters who are just as relatable. this book was wild- right when i thought i knew where it was going, ellie would drop a bomb of new information and i was left speechless several times. what a crazy story. it was beautiful i love cochrun’s writing so much and she is so incredibly creative. a must read sapphic holiday romcom if there ever is one.

Okay I really wanted to walk away from this thinking it was overhyped but it absolutely was not. Gosh it was so amazing. I'm blown away by Zevin's character building and writing. Every word captivated me. Sam and Sadie's long term relationship is complex and beautiful. I hated and loved both of them both as individuals and together at different points of the book. Zevin captures the mundane as well as the extravagant so well.
When I started it, I knew nothing of this book, other than that everyone is obsessed with it. It surprised me how devastating it was. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit turned off by the reasoning behind the actions of the climax, for a lack of a better word in an effort to not spoil. However, that did not break the book, because Zevin's writing is just that good. I actually cannot speak enough about how amazing her prose is. Everything from sequence to structure to language felt so intentional and contributed to the world Zevin created. I know nothing about gaming, but Zevin took me into the world and community of gamers, I so desperately wished I could play Mapletown. I also loved the side characters, the professor/bf/mentor was horrible, but I loved him. Marx was perfect in all his complexities and extremely relatable. And everyone else who influenced the lives and experiences of Sam and Sadie contributed to the community Zevin created in her pages. A must must must read. Top 10 of 2022, easily.

such an adorable concept! while there were a number of plot holes (Jordy's reaction to Skye's haircut, Maya's stage fright disappearing, etc), this book was so cute! it was fun and funny and in some ways predictable but in some ways not. I love love loved every character, especially Isaac and Perrie and I'm so happy justice was served while everyone got their happy ending. bonus points for a swiftie title and for this being a sophie gonzales book because i love her writing. she's so talented and i'm so grateful for the bi rep and queer escapism she always provides.

“I do not want the maps I draw to lie, but they will regardless, because they are drawn from my memories.”
Another WWII novel, but done differently this time. About the resisters, specifically the queer ones who kept the hope alive during a time where hope feels impossible. The main girls had such a complex, beautiful relationship, one I found to be very relatable. This kept me on the edge of my seat with amazing writing, too! A great book for young sapphic readers.

So intense. So beautiful. Gay does not leave room for speculation in this deeply personal, raw memoir in which she tells the story of her body- her own relationship to it, how people perceive it, why and how and for whom it exists . A relatively short memoir told in an essay-like style, but mostly chronologically ordered, Gay’s story left me breathless. She never disappoints and this is a new favorite
of mine. Tw eating disorders, rape, homophobia, self harm, domestic abuse- if you are able to, I highly recommend this as an audiobook.

i love a classic feel good rom com. characters were likable enough and henry is, as i’m sure you all know, an amazing writer. glad i got to this before the end of the year :)

Took a while to get into, but about half way through I became hooked. The characters are so complex and I loved them deeply. Through 3 different time lines, Labuskes explains the powers of words and storytelling. Labuskes’ writing left me breathless in so many ways- this story is personal to her, I could tell, and I couldn’t help but make it feel personal to me, too. Historical fiction, sapphic, high stakes, and ultimately a book about books, The Librarian of Banned Books checks off all my favorite things. I can’t wait for it to come out for everyone else to read it.
