Een boek dat ik in 3 uur uitlas; indrukwekkend, boeiend, en fijn geschreven. Ook dit boek zette me aan het nadenken en wees me op aannames die veel mensen, en ook ikzelf, hebben ten opzichte van dikke mensen.
Goed om te lezen, zeker nu ik de afgelopen week ook veel over body positivity heb gelezen en meer leer over deze beweging.

De veranderingen die Isi doormaakt zijn abrupt en daardoor ongeloofwaardig. Hierdoor worden veel gebeurtenissen in het boek dat.
Het eind is voorspelbaar.

Before I started writing this review, I looked to see when I had started reading the book and that's when I noticed it took me about a month to finish it.

After reading the blurp I was genuinely interested in reading the book. I've read a lot of stories about China, but I've got to say that this one was very different.

The book has 3 parts, each of them are about one of the main characters; Baorun, Miss Bai, Liu Sheng and decribe various events that happen in their lives. Which, are connected due to events in the past.

For a long time I was waiting for things to start happening as the story was evolving quite slowly, in my opinion. After learning the main reason why the 3 are connected (Miss Bai / Fairy Princess was raped) everything seems to continue on like nothing happened. We don't learn why the perpetrator commited his crime and how he feels about the situation. Not even later in the book.

The story continued to meander slowly, with few rapids on the way. Towards the end, when we are learning more about Miss Bai things are starting to happen, which got my attention a bit more.

Good story and a good translation I'd say as I finished this book in 5 hours and was entertained the entire time.
The books jumps from one character and location to another which was a little tricky at the start, but became easy to follow as the story developed.

Usually the end of these types of books are predictable, this one was able to surprise me.

Wow, wat een heerlijk boek! Ik zat er vanaf de eerste bladzijde in en kon het niet wegleggen.
De hoofdstukken zijn kort en het heden & verleden wisselen zich af. Als lezer leer je Emma snel kennen en kom je er achter dat ze geen gemakkelijke tijd heeft gehad op school en thuis. Bij elk hoofdstuk leer je meer over haar jeugd en over wat er zich dat examenjaar heeft afgespeeld. Het wordt snel duidelijk dat het geen makkelijk jaar was.

Zoals gezegd zijn de hoofdstukken kort en elk hoofdstuk eindigt spannend waardoor ik echt door wilde lezen. De drang om te weten wat er nou precies gebeurd is was groot! Wat er die ene avond gebeurd is lijkt snel duidelijk worden, maar niets is minder waar. Langzaamaan wordt het duidelijker wat er gebeurd is, maar het is pas aan het eind van het boek dat alles duidelijk wordt.

Het is niet zo voorspelbaar als je waarschijnlijk (al snel) zult denken!
