This book was very good. I think I wanted a little more from the themes and general reflection on the differences in time period. It felt very informative if you didn't know anything about slavery. But otherwise the time travel itself didn't feel utilized for much else then the plot development. Granted, the plot was good so I cannot complain too much, just more reflection in the book would have made this a 5 star for me I think.

I really enjoyed many pieces of this book. This was Vonnegut's 2nd published work and I think you can really feel that. His satirical humor is there, even if not quite timed right. His depressing plot lines are there, though maybe a bit more saddening then enlightening in how they reflect on humanity. His characters are so close to feeling real... but somehow are a bit too one note to quite be there. It just is everything verging on what I enjoyed about the 2 Vonnegut works I've enjoyed so far.

If you are interested in Vonnegut, this wouldn't be the place to start in my opinion.

I really enjoyed parts of this book, but overall didn't feel a whole lot of emotional attachment to the characters and struggled to care about what was happening even while I wanted to know what happened. I really enjoyed some of Chamber's other works and I feel like perhaps a larger sci-fi book of hers would be right up my alley, so I've added some more of her work to my TBR to try at some point!

Like... It's not bad. It's just... Very religious and I'm not really invested in anything it is going on and on about 🙈
I like the narrator and it's nice background noise... But I don't feel like I'm getting anything else from it?

I enjoyed the writing style of this book. It was very dreamlike in quality, floating almost? There were a lot of great quotes to be gleaned from it. I think that overall the plot was a little lacking for me and the themes were a little obvious in how they were arrived to and explained. but that was not necessarily in a bad thing... just made the book feel like it dragged a little for my personal taste.

Overall I enjoyed this book. There were some words of wisdom, a lot of reflection, and a bit more Christianity then I expected. It is interesting to read the works of someone who so often questions religion and agrees with the values I do, but lands on being Christian. There is something uniquely beautiful and different about Christians who actually exemplify a Christ like attuited. There is also something very different when it comes to Black Christianity then you get in White Christianity. It is such a messy and hard history that has resulted in those differences. But in the end, I appreciate Angelou's thoughts and reflections and appreciate her sharing with "all the daughters".

Very cute and fun art. A bit of mystery as things descend into a Stranger Things like darkness/vibe. If you like snails, miniatures, and a little bit of dark mystery and a loose narrative structure, this is a book for you.

I truly enjoyed this book. The complicated mother daughter dynamic really drew me in. Having played soccer and had a best friend with a coach for a father, it felt really real and grounded. Dynamics like that can be hard, straining and rewarding all in one go.

The romance also felt grounded and subtle and I like that you can see things beginning but not quite ending. It fits very well with the ending of the book that I achieved.
