Super interesting. It made me think about humanity and society, and how we all relate to each other in this vast web of humanity, and how what is acceptable is what you need to learn to survive in some ways. I also found it interesting because it helped me think more about people's character, and more specifically my own.
I just... I can say so much about things I hate, but things I love... I just don't know what to say other than I love them. I love this book. Gaiman brought me such joy as a young person when I read Coraline and then when I read The Graveyard Book. He captured such joy and my soul resonated so strongly with his characters. I think I have been nervous to revisit him, especially his adult writing, as an adult... I just want to love his work. I didn't want to possibly question my love as I have had to do with so many other authors (I'm looking at you, Rowling and Card). But this... this book was a gasp of fresh air. I just love it.
The story, ideas, and characters are lovely and vibrant. The Dialogue was intriguing and hit all the right beats. And as I've been doing lately... I read this in audiobook which just brought me more joy than I thought possible. I don't think it needs to be in Gaiman's voice to be lovely, but getting to experience it how he reads it was just a pleasure.
There were subtle messages of hope, bravery, continuing on, and realizing what is right in front of you. And to top it all off, he was doing spicy scenes before ACOTAR and it was honestly solid. Overall just a solid 5 star read for me.

As solid and enjoyable as the first time I read it. I don't think anything went overhead on my first read, but I did find it scarier when I was younger. Now, I picked up more on the clear respect the main character has for the Martians and the nuances of his describing them in ways that make them sound beautiful and might.
I would not recommend the auto narration version of this book through Google books. That was the only downfall of how I chose to read this book. For many of their auto narrated classics, it has been smooth sailing. This one just doesn't do very well by it.

I cannot begin to describe how hard I cried over this book. Unlike many books it wasn't just the ending. It pulls at your heart throughout the entirety of the novel. And since it is a rather big book, it leads to a lot of different points to cry. To many people skip the "boring history" part in the middle. Let me tell you, it adds so much more. This book is one that gives you food for thought every step of the way. Besides, it weaves a lovely and tragic tale that still manages to give you a sense of hope, and joy at the end. I also happened to love the movie, and learned to play many of the broadway musical numbers on the piano. Truly, this book is a book of emotions.
