I have had this book on my list for a while because it's based on Jewish folklore, but I kept putting it off cus I'm not huge on fantasy, I'm so glad I finally read it!
The Pomegranate Gate is probably one of the most Jewish books I've read which I loved! The story was super interesting. At the beginning I was having a hard time getting into it but I'd say around the 30% mark is when I started being super intrigued and reading a lot faster.
I've always been a fan of fae folklore so a book from a Jewish perspective that incorporates a lot of the same things worked super well for me! I'm excited to read the sequel which I've already been approved for on netgalley, thank goodness because I don't think I could wait until October.

Could've been a decent story about a woman learning how to be independent but instead we get a woman getting controlled by multiple man children and it's way too long for a romance anyways

I was lucky enough to receive digital advanced copies of both books in this duology so thank you to the publisher for that! I loved this book just as much aas the first one, and I was really worried I wouldn't tbh. I love how the plot is so ridiculous and kinda silly but it doesn't make the story silly, there is so much heart and relatablitiy in these books!
Obviously after the first books cliffhanger I was dying to find out what would happen, and I did not see any of that coming! I was literally sitting in shock while reading this book lol. I also finished it in a day which I hardly ever do anymore. I was very satisfied with the ending to this book but would love to see the world expand and get some books focusing on side characters. Definitely will keep an eye on this author either way!

I don't know why it's taken me so long to read this since I loved station eleven. The Glass Hotel has a less interesting plot than Station Eleven but the writing is way better. I absolutely loved the prose of this book, it was so beautiful. I loved the way the different stories all came together. I easily get bored with character driven novels if they're not well written but this wasn't an issue here. I definitely read this book slowly but it was because I wanted to savour it. Definitely my favourite read so far this year.
This one was a real slog. World building was non existent, all the povs had the same inner voice to the point I had to keep looking back to the beginning of the chapter to figure out who was who. But the biggest issue was that it was incredibly boring. Would not recommend.
This may have been my favourite one yet! I loved learning about exodan culture. I am forever astonished by Becky chambers world building and empathy

I really enjoyed The Rom-Commers. At first I had to suspend my disbelief because I found the set up/premise a little bit unbelievable, but once I got into the story I didn't care about that, which is exactly how it should be with this kind of book.
So this is about a talented screenplay writer who's career never took off because she had to be the caregiver for her dad after a bad accident that disabled him. One day her ex boyfriend who is her agent suddenly gets her a job working with her favourite movie writer of all time who is a huge celebrity (you can see why I felt the premise was a bit unrealistic, but as you get more into it some things make more sense).
This is definitely a slow burn but I liked that there wasn't too much angst or miscommunication which I find is overused in romance novels. I always enjoy stories about celebrities and Hollywood etc cus I think it's a fun setting, and I'm a big movie fan as well so reading those details can be interesting. The banter in this book was witty and not over the top, and the chemistry was believable.
This was my first book by this author but I'll definitely be adding her other books to my list!

A really sweet easy read! This book was set in Mumbai which was a nice change compared to a typical rom-com, although I often forgot it wasn't set in the US or something tbh, but I love Bollywood movies so I did enjoy all the Indian references.
Jia is the main character and she works at a magazine but runs a secret blog and dreams of becoming a matchmaker. She's in love with her family friend and he feels the same but neither will admit it until near the end of the book, it's definitely a slow burn but not in a frustrating way like is sometimes the case.
There were a lot of sweet moments and funny banter, I loved the side characters too and would definitely enjoy it if the author decided to write a book for one of them. Either way I'll definitely be looking to see what she does next.
Thanks to the publisher for the advanced copy!
