For some reason I thought this was gonna be a really light read but it wasn't. I liked it quite a lot but it was dense compared to what I had expected and it was sad and had some triggering stories but it also felt like it had a nice ending in a melancholy way

This is my favourite children's books, one of my favourite books and has been since the first time I read it, probably around the time it was first published.

It's a fantastic story about the kind of little girl all shy bookish kids like I was wished they were who goes on a wonderful adventure and makes beautiful friendships. I'll always recommend this. Of course you need to understand going in that it's a children's books so for example the villains are very one dimensional and some of the ideas could stand for more nuance. But for what it is, it's the perfect story.

I will post the link the podcast Caleb and I will be doing on it once it's been done

It wasn't bad, it just wasn't for me. The subject was interesting and I wish I could've kept reading but a few things just made it absolutely too grating for me to continue with, the first one being the overly conversational style of writing. I prefer memoirs that are more narrative and less feeling like someone is just sitting in front of me telling me their life story. I think that's a personal preference, based on the reviews the book is well loved. The other thing that just got to be too much for me was the religiosity. I'm not saying the book was preachy or proselytizing or anything really, it was just SO Christian, it felt too big. Of course it's the story of someone's life so it is what it is but her feelings about Christianity were just such a big part of every chapter I read that it was unengaging and unrelatable for someone who didn't grow up that way or have any connection to it. I think it's a nice book and a lot of people will like it, just not me and probably not most of my followers on here
