The painterly style that runs through the book is exquisite, but it suffers from a shaky setup. I think the biggest hurdle for me has been trying to pinpoint the tone of the story, whether I should expect some of the cartoonish reaction shots that sharply deviate from its portentous mode.

Review to follow. The story took me to surprisingly poignant places even though the story itself is self-consciously and deliberately abrasive. But I'm misogyny-ed out for the moment, you guys.
