i have the disadvantage of watching the hbo documentary and listening to the podcast about this story, so i felt underwhelmed in the beginning. however, the last third of this book, as the caricaturish villainy of theranos continues to mount and the investigative journalism aspect steps into the forefront, it became incredibly compelling. i got ptsd from past experiences with a shitty megalomaniacal boss el oh el.

I didn't enjoy the experience of reading this at all, but I think there's value in it. The visceral and satirical elements are incisive and blistering. A good comparison for dystopian-y post-modern novel is Marie Darrieussecq's "Pig Tales."

THIS IS THE SOAPIEST, SUDSIEST BOOK. I wish the main character is less of an uncomplicated ingenue, but I honestly enjoyed large portions of this. Content warnings up the gills for bullying, ed, and drug use though.
