This book has a unique structure. It’s part memoir, part poetry and part social commentary/essay about life as a Black trans masculine person.  My biggest takeaway about this book is that there need to be more books written by, about and for Black Trans folks. KB is an undeniably talented writer. I appreciated how  freely they shared their mistakes and their journey to becoming the person they are today. I believe KB largely wrote this book to help those who are living similar difficult lives in communities that invalidate, ignore and harm them. Everyone should read this book in order to be a better person. Black trans folks should read it to feel and be seen and for emotional support.

Not my genre. If you like action, mystery and horror you will like this. It’s well written just not my bag.

The emotions this book made me feel ranged from sad to apoplectic to nostalgic and so much in between. This is a tear jerker gut puncher with writing that is so uniquely quirky and beautiful. I loved this book so damn much.

4.5 stars. Well written and very easy to read and follow. There are so many lessons in this memoir. Lots of self reflection by the author, great representation of self care and how to be a respectful friend and partner. I am atheist yet the writing about Islam and the stories referenced were very intriguing and digestible. I identified a lot with the authors self sabotage and very much appreciate their efforts at working towards a more just and kind society. This book is excellent at making the reader feel what the author feels in terms of homophobia, Islamophobia, and & transphobia. I am so glad I chose to read this book and I am happily surprised at just how much it meant to me. I absolutely recommend reading this book.
