Memoir is my favorite genre and I have the softest spot for immigrants so this book was a perfect match for me. The TLDR: I loved it and recommend it to everyone.
Rachel Phan’s memoir as a third culture kid is a mix of lyrical memoir and history. She does a terrific job of sucking the reader in. This is a compulsively readable book where she reveals things about her life and family that aren’t picture perfect, which I absolutely appreciate. Rachel walks the reader through her life from being disappointingly born as a girl until present day! I felt all sorts of emotions while reading this ranging from anger to joy. I fully enjoyed my time reading this memoir that I was so graciously gifted as an arc (that I requested) and I hope you pick it up! You won’t be disappointed

I love the title and the cover. The author is entertaining and I enjoyed the book but it was kind of forgettable. I did appreciate that Jennifer has experienced a lot of joy in her life which could be uplifting for a trans reader. I would say this is a fine book and wouldn’t discourage anyone from reading it but I don’t believe it’s a must read. 3.5 stars.
