City of Nightmares by Rebecca Schaeffer

Think I just found another book to add to my favourites list! I read this in a day, I haven’t done that with a book in forever so you know it must be good!
I was so intrigued by the concept of people turning into their worst fears and becoming nightmares and this did not disappoint! It was wild! I loved the entire thing, Ness was a great main character and I loved her viewpoint on the city and how she grew in this book! And Cy my beautiful boy *mwah*!
I love that this book essentially despite being about people turning into their worst fears had so many great scenes and points about conquering those fears, self agency and consent. It was honestly just such a good book I loved everything about it and I just couldn’t put it down! I just loved how Ness grew and changed in the book and really evolved as a main character, it was refreshing to get such a strong transformation!
THAT ENDING THOUGH MAKES ME SO MAD I HAVE TO WAIT…THE PHANTOM???

Okay so I didn’t know it was possible to pack this much lore and action into a 300 page book but wow! I loved every second of this, the forest was so so cool, all the different clans, Winnie! It was great! I loved the additional drawings in the book too showing the nightmares it was so coooool.
The pacing was perfect, I feel like everything was perfectly fleshed out and I had so much fun with this book. I have my suspicions about Jay but I enjoy the little hints of romance there and the ex friend dynamic is fun. Honestly this whole book was just really good, I’ll be reading more from this author for sureeee.
I’m glad that despite this book getting a sequel it made sure to get the main hunter trials completed within it, I was really hoping I wouldn’t have to waitttt and I didn’t! It was awesome! The twists at the end and the cliffhanger plot points have me craving the sequel asap though!

I think this book was written for me. You give me gender swapped lost boys with a mix of Buffy vibes and expect me not to give it 5*???
I genuinely had so much fun with this, it was fun, had a good mystery to it and worked incredibly well as a stand-alone story! Everything was wrapped up neatly and the pacing was great, I feel like we had the right amount of time for everything to evolve and the plot to fall into place! It was also surprisingly gory which I loveddd! Plus I love the horrific looking vampires always!
Anyway 5* for this as I spent most of it being like omg lost boys omg lost boys at all the little plot points and parts and come onnnnn…one of the characters was called Marko (he’s my favourite so it made me extra happy) it’s just a really fun paranormal mystery book and I loved every second!

The pure confusion I experienced when I realised that this book is technically same universe as the authors other book I read?? I was like waittttt cool!
The MC annoyed me for a good chunk of the beginning she was so “not like other girls” it got irritating…but thankfully it did get better in the second half, it shouldn’t take 50% of a book to get better but I’m glad I stuck with it because it was fun ! I really adored it by the end! If you’re thinking of DNF’ing stick with it!
I wish the book really chose what it wanted to be a lot sooner as it felt like the author was trying to achieve too many things in just one book that the plot was quite off pace hence it taking 50% to get worth reading!! The story reallt got going by the 75% mark and i feel like it would have paid off better to be a duology rather than a standalone? So the 2nd half of the story had more time to be fleshed out and the whole competition hunger games thing coulda been even more and the fast paced ending coulda been longer, I did enjoy the amount of blood and gore in this book a lot it was cool af!
Anyway I did have a really fun time with the lore and Roman was dreamyyyyy (the references to other vampire media make me wonder if he’s named after Hemlock Grove’s Roman ♡) so I’m giving it 4* because I AM a sucker for vampires and the second half really pulled everything together!

When there’s a new shadowhunter series to start my brain spends the first like 5 chapters racing to try figure out which characters relate to the ones I already know, but once in past that point I always have THE best time with the new characters and setting! This one was no exception I am OBSESSED! It just made my heart race getting to see my favourite characters from TID (my fav series ever) being all grown up and living their happy loving their lives, so happy!!
I really did adore every character in this book, Cordelia was such an amazing MC, James is so perfect, honestly everyone is I love them all so much!! I loved the relationships and the drama and just…wow! The plot was so intense too, I loved every second it it, there’s really nothing bad I can say about this at all I adored this so much! So excited for book 2!

If you’ve ever seen the movie adaptation for this (it’s one of my favourite movies btw despite its flaws) disregard it completely and pick this up right now!! Truly it’s baffling just how much content they disregarded, the book is leagues and leagues above the adaptation!
It’s so crazy how Anne Rice takes all these seemingly random threads at the start of the book and weaves them all together into such an incredible journey. I just love the way this book was structured and the POV’s of who was telling the tale, it all worked impeccably and the lore in here was insane! I can’t believe that something can be thought out to this level of detail it’s incredible.
There is truly nothing I can ever say to sum up anything Anne Rice has written!! You just have to read it for yourself! You won’t regret a single second!

This was beautifully written, so so beautifully written. I loved all the mythology and folklore within it and the magic happening along the story. The two POV’s and the flashing back to the past to tell the story worked so so well! The twist at the end was so crazy too!
I was a little confused at time what was real and what wasn’t but I think that was kind of the point! I had a lot of fun with this!! I definitely recommend if you like something gorgeous, a little cryptic and honestly quite spooky yet romantic!

Listen I know this is a horror but it made me so fucking sad by the end oh my god, I just couldn’t stop crying for a good 4 or 5 chapters at the end??
This was more than a spooky doll horror, it was family and loss and grief at the heart of it and it was so upsetting but so good! The horror part of it was great and so many parts gave me chills it was so creepy but like I’m so sad now? Idk if the author meant to leave you crying at the end but…wow

God this series causes me pain every time in the best possible way. My boys my poor boys…and poor Blue omg. I just have no words yet again, no words except how in love with TRC I am and how much I adored every single god damn page. There was even more amazing character development in this one and some big moves on the plot so I enjoy this one a lot every time! It feels like the Adam book as well so it has my heart.
Every time I read a book in this series I’m just taken aback by how incredible the world building is and how much thought and care is put into the importance of every scene! I can never pick a favourite in the series or even a favourite character because each and every moment is so impeccable! I just wanna re read them again and again and again forever. Sigh onto book 4 to complete the re read <3
