The characters are written well and have a depth that isn't fully explored yet. I'm excited to listen to book 2

Pleasantly surprised with the character development and the relationship/world building. Will def. be listening to more of these books.

I thought this book was going to be cringe upon rereading (10 years later). The spice wasn't all that spicy and it was more fast pounding (which isn't a lot of fun for one partner). But, I'm not here to talk about the spice.
Listening this time around, things sounded stilted and dated. The dating didn't bother me but things just felt off. Then I thought, what if I Invision this more as a film noir, and it clicked. The way some of the characters talked to each other have that snappy detective style. The way the narrator delivered back and forth dialogue was reminiscent of those films. After I had this mindset, I started to enjoy the book a bit more.
I remember not enjoying the lessers POV when I read it and I sure as hell didn't like it this time around either. There is something about developing the bad guys the way that these books do that I just don't like. I wanted to know the other characters more.
I know this is the launching pad of the series and the two main characters suffer due to world building and future character development. I just wish we had more time with these two MCs.
This is not a 5 star read by my standards today.

jfc I didn't know what I was getting into. It's not my kink but it was fun nonetheless.

I wish there was more relationship development and less of them in their head screaming repeatedly that they should tell the other something. It became repetitive and made the story start to stale in the last half.

I am SHATTERED that this series only has audio for the first two books. Sean Crisden is such an amazing narrator and makes every character unique. His voice acting skills are top notch.
This book delvs further into each character, their flaws, their emotions, and their relationships. I am so glad I kept going with this series.

lol get ready. This just plows you over with dominance.
The narrators are great at voices and make the listening experience enjoyable.

What a delightful book. The characters were lovely, the banter was top notch, and the way they cared for each other was hot and tender.
⚠️Light Spoilage⚠️
In the first half the seemingly constant "are-they arent-they" became tiresome. Also the third act breakup seemed a bit unnecessary. Claire completely losing it seemed out of character because she was fairly open and honest with Tristan.
Despite all of this, it didn't truly distract from the story.

The communication between characters while not fully open, seemed reasonable. As the book went on, especially in the last 1/3 it became the weight of the remaining story. I ended up putting the book down because it became too trite.
