ull Review from my blog Owl Eyes Reviews

1.75/t stars.

I read the first chapter of this book and knew that I was not going to enjoy it. Unfortunately, I continued because everyone on goodreads couldn’t stop talking about the ending. I got caught up in my intrigue and continued. Well, I should have listened to myself because (I’m sorry) this book was not worth the time I spent on it.
I’ll start with the positives, because there are a couple. Even though in the end, I did not like this book, it did keep me entertained for the majority of the book. I continued because I wanted to know what was going to happen. Another thing I really enjoyed was the family aspect of this book. The main character’s siblings were developed well, taking into account how short the book is. Honestly, his siblings were more interesting to me than the main character was himself.
Now, we get to a few not so positive things.
Even though I was entertained throughout the book, not all of it was because I was enjoying what was actually happening. For one thing, the writing style bothered me so much. All of the cliche YA things that bother me (instalove, not introducing the main character, speeding over important moments, etc.) were all done in this book. On top of those, the main character’s voice just dropped. I didn’t care about him 75% of the time, and when I did, it was because he was interacting with someone else.
I waited for things to be explained. I waited for the moment where everything would make sense. Everyone was talking about how shocking the end was, and I do have to explain, the ending was shocking. It was shocking because it just left the whole story hanging. It was shocking because there was no ending.
I’m left not really sure why I continued with this book. I didn’t really enjoy it at all. My mind would have been better spent somewhere else.

Hmm. I liked the first one better. Interested in what's going to happen next.

It went where I wanted it to and I loved it! Now I just have to wait for the next volume.

*sigh*
The hype around this book kind of ruined it for me. It was a good book. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it. But it wasn't what I thought it was going to be, therefore, I was a little disappointed. I do not believe I will be finishing the duology. :/
