This one was a little slow for me at the start, but I found myself really invested towards the middle and end. Something about the writing style made it hard to connect to at first for me, but I’m really glad that I continued :)

Kelly Yang has quickly become not only one of my favorite author’s but my student’s as well! My fifth graders are going to LOVE this book. I can’t wait to share it with them, especially because so many of them will relate to the situations the characters are in.

This book really came out of no where and smacked me on the head with some things I really needed to hear. I loved it ❤️

This was pretty good! I thought it was going to be a lot messier than it was, however, uI found myself on the edge of my seat anyway. It was a little slow at parts, but overall pretty enjoyable :)

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! I really enjoyed this book, mainly because it was a window into an experience I have never lived. This is an Oregon Battle of the Books Book for 2022-2023 and I'm very excited to share it with my students this upcoming year :)

Another book that I wouldn’t have picked up if it wasn’t for the Booktube prize! I learned a lot about our country and how awful it’s been in the past (shocker there). But most importantly, I learned a lot about people that I didn’t know very much about. I’m not a huge fan of war stories, but this one was enjoyable.
I learned so much about the Tulas Race Massacre that I didn’t know. It can be somewhat overwhelming to learn about U.S. history, however, I think it’s very important to not let it die. I don’t think I would have picked up this book if it wasn’t for the Booktube prize so I’m very grateful.
This book captivated me and I’m actually shocked that it did. I would have NEVER picked up this book if it wasn’t for the Booktube prize. Never ever, but a learned a lot and I’m glad that I did pick it up.
Very interesting book. I found myself very glued to the story in certain times and other times I was bored. This is a book I would not have read in my own, but I’m glad I did because I learned something new.
His Name Is George Floyd: One Man's Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice
Toluse Olorunnipa, Robert Samuels
When unarmed Black people are killed in this world, their names become the songs we sing out. However, I realized that I knew nothing about George Floyd as a person. What did he like? What was his favorite food? What brought him joy? This book was very hard to listen to, but necessary. I'm really grateful to have read it. We have a long way to go.
