I read this as a judge for the Booktube Prize Octofinals.
This is a book that I would not have picked up on my own. I’m interested in what is being talked about, but I would rather watch a documentary about it than read it. I think that because of that, I didn’t connect with this book that much. I’m happy that I read it, but my connection to it wasn’t super strong.

I read this as a judge for the Booktube Prize nonfiction Octofinals. I enjoyed some of the short stories in this and others I did not enjoy.
I read this book for the Booktube Prize octofinals.
This book was extremely thought provoking. I’m really loved the media that was put throughout the book. It added to the experience. I connected with this book more than I did Rankine’s other book. I’m really glad that I picked it up!

I love President Obama a whole bunch. Living through his presidency is one of those things that makes me excited to be alive during the time that I have been alive. He definitely has been my favorite president in my lifetime. But does that mean that I enjoy reading a 700 page book that he wrote about the policies he did during his presidency? Let’s just say that this was a bit of a struggle for me. I did end up listening to the audiobook along side this book to help me get through it. It was really nice to be able to hear his voice and to hear all of this stuff. But I’m much would’ve rather heard more about Michele and his daughters.

Read this one because I'm reading it with my highest reading group. It's not my favorite, but my kids have been asking for lots of mysteries and this one is fun :)
Wowza! This one definitely made me think A TON! This book gave me a lot of insight. What a gift Ijeoma Oluo is to us.
As a Black actress, Cicely's work has always inspired me. I am so grateful to have grown up in a lifetime where I could have witnessed her excellence.
I’ve done it!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAH! I’ve been reading this book for months. MONTHS. I started with the physical book but when I realized just how much mystery there was within it, I decided to switch to the audiobook. Then I started avoiding the audiobook because I had to wait for it and had forgotten what happened, which lead me to restarting the book all over again! I’ve realized that if I had to choose between beautiful writing and a story that I don’t connect with or awful writing and a story I do connect with,I would choose the latter and day. This book was beautiful, the prose was dripping with details, but I just had a hard time connecting with all the different parts of the story. I’m super glad that I read it, but I’m also glad to be done.
