I am so disappointed. So very, very disappointed. This was one of my most anticipated releases or 2017, and it... not only did it was unfinishable. I couldn't care about the characters, I couldn't care about the plot (hahaha). I'm just so very disappointed.
Sigh.

How in the hell does anyone enjoy this poorly written excuse of an UF novel?
There's zero world-building; the characters are all boring as heck, Anita is, quite frankly, annoying as hell. Honestly. What is this narration, even? SHE EXPLAINS ALL THE JOKES. SHE ANSWERS RHETORICAL QUESTIONS. It's so insulting to the reader. WHY.
The vampirism wasn't explained. Vampires are apparently evil because Anita has some weird-ass prejudice against them? Like, she believes ZOMBIES have rights, but Vampires all need to be wiped out? That makes sense???
The Ghouls were given a sketchy af explanation - so thin a butterfly beating its wings could have knocked it over ("no one knows?" Really? You gon' giv me that shit?)
Idk man. I assume that, since it's got about 20 books in the series atm, it'll get better eventually. But LORD, I really don't see the appeal right now.
Welp. On to book 2.

The same old bland, recycled characters we've seen time and time again in adult UF. Wooden dialogue. Bad pacing.
Please, no.

This was recommended to me AGES ago, back when I'd gotten into Vampire Academy. I was told that, if I loved VA, I was going to adore this.
WRONG.
FOr a prodigy student in her first year of college, the heroine, Claire Danvers has the mental disposition of a 12 year old. She makes stupid decisions - and I didn't even get very far into the book.
Girl in dorm pushes her down the stairs? Doesn't report it, but moves into a house with five (?) complete strangers ????? Does that... sound... sensible... to anyone ????
I Read this for two hours during a break between lectures. Dropped it like a hot potato when it was time for my next class. Yikes.

*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
For fans of The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones? Right.
DNF this at about the 30% mark. The writing didn't capture my attention, the characters were bland, the world we were in was vague and, quite honestly, uninteresting. It was an effort to pick this up and force myself to read this. This was definitely not for me.

NO STARS FOR YOU. NONE. NO. BAD BOOK. BAD.
I legitimately had to force myself to get up to page 100-something before I completely noped out. WHAT WAS THIS BOOK and WHY DID MY DAD BUY IT FOR ME?

I couldn't even stick around long enough see the girl wake up . Really, you'd think that a book this hyped up would get at least a little bit interesting by the halfway point, but nooooooo, not this one. When I finally gave up on this last night, all I had to show for suffering through Thomas's whiny narrative was a huge stack of questions I'd collected since the first page and NOT ONE OF THEM HAD BEEN ANSWERED.
I tried to let my fondness for the movie cast fuel me, I really did. But I when I reached the point whereThomas was stuck in the maze, surrounded grievers and I was unable to feel anything besides profoundly bored, I knew that it was hopeless.
It's hard to enjoy a book when you simply can't tolerate the MC's bullshit. Literally all holier-than-thou, special little snowflake Thomas did was complain and whine and mope and gripe. GOD. I do think that maybe this would be better as a movie because a) None of Thomas's inner monologue. Yay. and b)I think the concept of the maze would translate well onto film. Idk though. This book just didn't do it for me.
I might pick it up again when I'm feeling more tolerant, but for now it's adios.

Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favorite Ghibli movies. Heck, it's one of my favorite movies period. And somehow, somehow I'd never read the book before.
I'm so glad I finally picked this up. Howl's Moving Castle is a delightful children's fantasy novel you can get sucked into even as an adult. It's not fair to compare the movie with the book, because while the bones are the same, they are vastly different books. This was a treat and I really enjoyed it.

This wasn't the best written book in the world but, after it's incredibly slow (and kinda dull start) it got entertaining as heck.
The whodunnit was fairly obvious very early on, and the romance made me roll my eyes a total of 17 times (yes, I counted) but all in all this wasn't bad. I'd read the sequel.
