Silent comics have the potential to be two things: 1) Genius 2) Disappointing.
Guess which category this fell under?
Winnebago Graveyard's premise had the capacity to be great. The concept was simple, good horror. The execution? *blows raspberry* Apart from the first few pages, which were decently slow, the pacing throughout all four issues was rushed, and we had zero time to grasp what was happening before that abrupt conclusion. The lack of any decent buildup meant that we weren't able to give a damn about the main characters. I mean, really. How can anyone be expected to care about three people who start running for their lives a mere three pages after you meet them?
The art was cool, I'll give it that. But because of how absurdly rushed this was, the art didn't really lend itself to any kind of storytelling? Which was a damn shame because this is a silent comic. Basically all of the storytelling falls squarely on the art's shoulder. The art tried, it really did. But at the end of the day, this book was just a series of cool-ish art that couldn't tell a story and was hoping to God the readers would get the gist of things.
Welp.

... For some weird reason, the version I read didn't have any... text bubbles? So I have no idea what anyone was saying at any given time? That weirdness notwithstanding, this was still a really good read?
The art told a powerful, comprehensible story that was original and captivating, right from the first page.
I'm definitely looking forward to picking up a copy of this book that has dialogue in it.
I received a copy of this book on Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review

An absolutely delightful graphic novel about lesbian princesses, love, kindness, discovering who you are, and blossoming into your fullest potential - FOR KIDS.
The art is beautiful, the story more so. Everybody needs to read this.
