I can't even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book. It was simple, it was captivating, it was good storytelling and, more importantly, I wasn't constantly banging my head against a wall, frustrated by stupid characters.

Nothing really happened for a good 50% of the book, but it was entertaining nonetheless, mostly due to our snarktastic main character and narrator. And for the rest of the 50%, things were all kinds of whoa

Gen was an honest-to-god delight. But, then again, I could be a tad biased. We all know how much I love snarky, sarcastic characters who don't know when to shut up. It's a weakness I shall do nothing about.

Can't wait to start the next one.

I spent my time between reading the Thief and reading The Queen of Attolia wondering why on earth everyone seemed to dislike the first book in comparison to it's sequel. And though my opinion of the first book hasn't changed in the slightest, I now have my answer.

The Queen of Attolia is everything that I enjoyed about The Thief, multiplied by ten. I absolutely loved it, even if there were a few elements that left me scratching my head. I am definitely looking forward to more Gen and more of his story.

3.7 stars.

I read the original (a very long time ago, but it's one of those stories that you remember) and I have to say, I thought this was a very good retelling. That ending... I didn't see it coming and I am thrilled the author decided to make the changes she did.

Review to come.
